Yes, this thread was corrupted... I repaired what is left of it, though there are some floating html files of some of the posts that were lost that can be reached from the link above. Thanks,

-Tim

Thank you, Tim at WebFlyer, for your assistance.

As I had mentioned to dan at WebFlyer in an earlier thread, I fully realize that you and the others in the Information Technology department at WebFlyer have far more important things to do than fix corrupted threads such as Who Will Be The Next FlyerTalker To Post? An OMNI Game, especially with the transition of FlyerTalk to new bulletin board software.

I understand that the new bulletin board software (vBulletin, I believe?) may eliminate the need to archive threads in the future, and may even allow archived threads to be accessed once again. As probably the most popular thread in FlyerTalk history, Who Will Be The Next FlyerTalker To Post? An OMNI Game should be the perfect thread to really test the stamina of the new bulletin board software!

I really appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to correct the thread. Thank you again, Tim at WebFlyer!

Yes, it seems that that thread gets hit pretty hard. that is more than likely the cause of the corruption in it... I have repaired it, but alot of the posts in it have been lost again. Thanks

While I greatly appreciate the efforts of both Tim at WebFlyer and dan at WebFlyer, I believe it is in the best interests of everyone that we suspend the Who WIll Be The Next FlyerTalker To Post? An OMNI Game thread, at least until FlyerTalk is transitioned over to the new bulletin board software. It is unfair to keep distracting them from more important tasks they currently face simply to fix a thread that really does not conform to the original intended purpose of FlyerTalk: points and miles.

As a person whose business includes technical involvement with software and hardware (though not to the level of both Tim at WebFlyer and dan at WebFlyer) and who has done almost everything with software (except for actual programming) from quality assurance to eta testing, I fully understand the demands and intricacies involved pertaining to upgrading software, correcting corruption problems, technical analysis, and assuring that the software is operating as close to its intended purpose as possible.

I decided to investigate other bulletin board sites using vBulletin. Some of them seem to have threads that are greater than 1,000 pages, but I really have no gauge as to how much traffic vBulletin threads can handle at one time. The Who WIll Be The Next FlyerTalker To Post? An OMNI Game would be the perfect thread to test that on FlyerTalk once the transition period is completed.

Again, I think the Who WIll Be The Next FlyerTalker To Post? An OMNI Game thread should be temporarily suspended. In the meantime, I want to profusely thank Tim at WebFlyer and dan at WebFlyer again for all of their efforts.

If you could hold off on those long OMNI-type threads for a little while, that would be much appreciated. Especially from Tim, as he's the one who usually does the chasing down and fixing.

We're definitely looking forward to the move to vBB, and it should take a lot more abuse than our current one. We've looked around and found a lot of vBB boards that make our traffic look like a trickle, which was one of the reasons we chose this particular product.

I have already put the word out on this in OMNI, asking everyone to please cooperate with you and Tim as much as possible during this transition period, dan at WebFlyer.

I want to thank you and Tim again for all of your assistance.

I have one last question. This may be an unfair question to ask, but I am simply curious: is there an estimated timeframe as to when FlyerTalk is expected to be fully operational on the vBulletin software?

It's a fair question... John and Tim have actually been testing out an install of it on another server and working out migration bugs before the real move. We don't have a time frame yet, but we're closer than we've been before. We have to balance this project with others, including the Freddies which just started, but it's high on our list of priorities.

Thanks for everyone's continued patience while we work on this.

Update...

I do not know if any of you on the Information Technology staff at WebFlyer know this, but this thread has been absolutely hammered with at least 4270 posts in only 20 days time (could this possibly be a FlyerTalk record?) and there have been times where at least four FlyerTalk members posted at one time!, yet there have been absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I just wanted to give you a positive progress report on a thread that has continuously tested FlyerTalk and continues to push it towards the limits like no other thread (to my knowledge) in the history of FlyerTalk ever has.

If you have a moment or two and are able to do so, please feel free to join in on this thread. I am sure you will get quite a warm welcome.

Thank you all again for an excellent job overall. I just wanted to let you know how appreciative I am for all of your hard work and the obvious results.

Better technology.

This is definitely a good thing.
