FT experimenting with banners down the SIDE of a thread now?
And I notice it's in Javascript to fool most adblockers, I understand the need to create revenue here but this severly influences the readbility of the thread when there is a 340*640 banner down the side of a post... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I immediately went to only Randy, but I should hove known the discussion would be here.
Scott, is the ad garbled or otherwise in need of technical support? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
I think he means it scrunches the viewable thread text windown down to where it makes it uncomfortable to read FlyerTalk with such narrow margins.
And I agree!! I hate these new sidebar ads!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif |

Thank goodness I am not techno enough to change any settings etc. I do not see anything other than what was always there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by dan at WebFlyer: Scott, the ad code is the same that we use on the front page (http://www.flyertalk.com). That javascript is something our ad company has been using for a while. As for the 340x640 banner, when did you see that? The content space is coded for 120x600. I have noticed a couple times when the company has sent a horizontal banner into that space (probably an ad server problem), but it gets cutoff at the 120 mark. </font> <!-- SKYSCRAPER START --> <!-- TF 120x600 JScript code --> Then a bunch of code. Problem is that an adkiller only prevents the ad from loading but still leaves a big grey box on the right column in the topic listing and thread. |
I've only noticed it in OMNI and the Archives.

It's also in FT Airports

Also now in Dining...

I too have started to see these "side ads" around here and there lately. Not as annoying as those massive 'Drug Free America' banners that hold up all pages from opening or posting, but it just adds to the difficulty of using FT in a hassle free manner lately. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Side banners are still in FT dining and FT airports. From FT airports I am also getting Expedia popups. An example:

Perhaps it's a birthday present, or something, just for you, Scott! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
