side banners are now showing up on the individual fora (i.e. TravelBuzz!, OMNI, etc.) in FTTravel.

Please -- advertising IS NOT a tech issue. Advertising issues are not appropriate for discussion here.

Take advertising issues to Suggestions or to the Only Randy Forum.

Thank you.

At the start of this thread Dan claims the horizontal banners are an ad server problem, it's not about the ad in general, it's about the lack of readbility because of these ad's. If they are there on your request then my apologies for the complaint, but I gathered from Dan's post that they are not meant to be there like that. Take a look at this thread for an example of what it does to the page:

When someone only posts 2 or 3 lines of text 75% of the screen is filled with black rectangles to fit the banner at the side...

The example you post is a tech problem and I thank you for bringing it to our attention.

My earlier post was simply to let people know that we know there are more ads on the site than there used to be -- the presence of ads is not a tech problem. Other issues -- like your example -- are definitely a tech problem.

That black area on that thread is something new to me. It could be just bad HTML-ing on my part; I'll check that template against the others to see. Thanks for the heads-up on that.

As for the big ad you mentioned at the beginning of this ad, that was something that appeared on your browser, but I couldn't dupe on mine. The ads down the right column are hardcoded to show up as 120x600. There definintely shouldn't be any 340*640 banners running here.

The side ads are all over FT Miles as well (this changed from the last time I was on around 11am EDT). I don't get black boxes, however.

I usually use Mozilla as a browser - don't know if they're present with IE or not. This is the first time I've seen them, but they're highly annoying. I hope you guys will be able to make them behave.

Thanks.

I have a technical issue for the FT folks - if you are going to have these skyscraper ads, is it possible to "wrap" what appears below them to afford the normally-wide view at least BELOW the ads? Their presence cramps everything into a small, unreadable space even below where they appear - all the way down the page - and this seems unnecessary. Can this be fixed??

No. We can not easily do this.
