Unique Page titles?

Unique Page titles?
I had posted this in 'Suggestions' but someone said it might be a technical issue (sorry for the double posting).

I know Randy has plans for new software that will provide FT will all sorts of whistles and bells such as a customizable entry page, but in the meantime, many people just bookmark their favorite places. When I do this in Netscape, every sub-category in a forum comes up with the forum name only as the page title- ie 'United', 'MilesBuzz', 'MileRun', 'Star', all are listed as "FlyerTalk Miles". 'TravelBuzz', 'Asia', 'Hotels' all say "FlyerTalk Travel".

I can & do go back and edit them by hand so I know what's what, but would it be possible to give them unique page titles?

Click on "Bookmarks"
Select "Edit Bookmarks" at the top of the list.
Select the bookmark you wish to change.
Click "Edit" at the top of that window.
Select "Bookmark Properties" from the pulldown menu.
You can then rename your bookmark anything you want in that window. Change only the name, not the location.
Then click "OK"
I hope this is what you were looking for.

Thanks, henwood, but I do know how to edit them by hand. I was wondering if they could be titled so I (and all) wouldn't have to.

To clarify, you mean that when you go into "MilesBuzz" or "S.P.A.M." or even a program's forum, such as "Air Canada", the page title just says "FlyerTalk Miles", right? That's a default behavior of the bulletin board software... you'll get a unique page title when you click into a particular post, just not the main thread listing.

We can look into possibly modifying the title behavior for the thread listing pages, but it may take a while...

Right, exactly.

hmm, actually, I don't. Probably some buggie in Netscape 4.7... When I open the frame in a new window, it comes up with the thread title, but that's not all that important to me - I can't imagine needing to bookmark a particular thread...

I was just wondering. Netscape names it's bookmarks accoring to what's within the &lt;title&gt; tags, and with some people recently complaining about the complexities of posting in the appropriate forum, and/or navigating across forums, I was just thinking of any way to make it easier for them to hop around. I generally use my bookmarks rather than navigate, because that way, the forums I'm interested in are always one click away.

But this idea hasn't seemed to generate any groundswell of support , so no biggie, but I do appreciate the response.

Yea, it does the same w/ IE as well.

What Dan, I think, was saying is that there is a bug in the UBB software that isn't throwing a correct (i.e. specific) title in the &lt;title&gt; tag for the forum itself. It is only doin git for the specific threads.

tigertiger, try entering FlyerTalk through www.flyertalk.com/forumcgi/Ultimate.cgi . My experience has been that by navigating through this link, it avoids this dilemma when I bookmark. I get the actual page title that I've bookmarked rather than the Forum title.

Mr Limo, thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't work.

If you view the page source for say, the United forum, you see, right at the top:

&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;TITLE&gt;FlyerTalk Miles&lt;/title&gt;

and not, 'FlyerTalk Miles - United' or some such.

Netscape names it's bookmarks according to what is within these title tags. It doesn't matter how you get there in the first place.

If I try to bookmark a thread, it bookmarks with the thread title, but I don't ever bookmark threads.
