Why does it take so long for OMNI to load?

I'm on a cable modem and everything else loads instantly. It takes OMNI anywhere from 10-20 seconds to load before opening.

Seems to have been this way for the past week or so. Anyone else experience this?

I'm on a 28.8 dial up, and it is taking about 20-30 seconds for Omni to load. It was that way all day yesterday also. Normally pages load in 4-5 seconds.

I am having the same problem. All the other forums load OK but Omni takes forever. I'm viewing FlyerTalk over a DSL connection.

I tried it from a dial-up at home, and it is slow. The main culprit is probably the number of active threads in the forum. At any given time OMNI is the most active forum.

John, thanks for the support on this forum.

Omni is so much slower to open than the other forums, but not so much bigger. It took me 1 second to open The Buzz, 15 seconds to open Omni in a very informal test I just ran. I think it's something other than just the number of active hreads, you might want to look deeper.

We'll check it out tomorrow, dgolds, either Dan or I will rebuild the threads and see if that improves performance. My guess this am was just that -- a guess, hazarded from home on a holiday when I don't have much time to look at things.

My wife and kids don't understand why I'm even on the Internet on Christmas morning

It wouldn't surprise me to find another issue when I'm able to check a little more thoroughly.

Thanks.

I've just rebuilt the threads in OMNI, and run some other maintenance functions on it...

It seems to be running smoothly at this end; how does it look to you, shadow?

I can't get into it at all now. (Couldn't earlier today, either.) Everything else works normally: a second or two max until the page starts to appear, though on a phone line some of the larger ones take a while to finish.

Dan, taking into consideration I'm on a dial-up from my office, it seems a little bit faster. I'll try again at home tonight and let you know.

Thanks.

Dan,

Just logged in from home; cable modem. It took exactly 15 seconds for OMNI to open.

Everything else opens immediately...

I can get in now. It's slower than the other forums (fora?), but at least it works.

On 4meg ADSL it loads slow... 30 seconds plus...sometimes never.
