Has anyone else experienced the haunted house sounds while on FT?

OK - I'm looking for suitable facilities where my loved ones can put me and throw away the key!

Three times now over the past month, I have opened someone's post, and immediately hear through my computer's speakers, a sound that is loud, sorta sounds like a cash register sounds when it's running a tape, overlaid with periodic squeaky door opening sounds, and an intermittent bell sound - sorta like the old bells you got when you hit 'return' on manual typewriters.

When I close out of the post, it goes away.

It happened today on Hilton's board when I posted a new thread on making diamond.

Absolute weirdness. Went right to virus scan - but nothing. PLEASE tell me this has happened to someone else!

No, you are NOT insane (or we both are ). I heard it last week, and when I closed my mp3 player it went away (I probably also clicked another FT post then too). I just assumed my mp3 player was acting up. My best thought is that it's an ad thing.

I'm using Netscape 4.75 on Redhat Linux 6.2.

using Netscape (4.72, Mac) I had to deactivate the java features (in the preferences) to get that away with that annoying sound. No problem, and no hanging, now with my (otherwise unloved) IE Explorer.

It was definitely an ad. When I scrolled down the ad I saw had graphics timed in sync with the sounds. Must not have been an effective ad since I can't even remember what it was for. I almost posted to Randy's forum about how annoying this is -- even more annoying than the pop-up immodium ads.

I reported this to Michael at WebFlyer last week and he is looking into it. It is one of the ads. From my post in the Netscape hanging problem thread:
First, the pop ad at the bottom of a typical FlyerTalk page that now has the annoying sound file. I got it again today. It is an ad for "netstocks.com." It is NOT a normal animated GIF. I went to right click on the ad to get the URL for you, and instead of getting the usual properties window, I got a "FlashPlayer4" control panel.

well someone needs to let the ad agency know they more than missed the mark on this one! I didn't even notice the ad - since I have developed a keen ability to ignore them.. I was much more focused on "where's that sound coming from"?

Thanks - another day saved from a room with bars!

This one just bit me too. At first I thought one of my amusing coworkers had adjusted by sound preferences. Then I scrolled to the bottom of FT and saw the ad synched with the noise. This is really annoying Please do not accept these audio ads.

Definitely agree. These ads that use sound, flashing animation, and especially java or javascript are really intrusive. (And like everyone else, they keep causing Netscape to lock up.)

Hello everybody. How's life?

Well, I've looked into this matter and it appears that we weren't aware of this type of ad being ran on our site. We've requested that our ad agency not allow this type of ad to be placed on FlyerTalk in the future and they assure us that all is well.

I would like to ask that you please help me keep an eye out for it, as I've not had one yet...one of these ads that is, and I want to make sure that this ends as quickly as possible.

ThanX...
Michael at WebFlyer
