Thumbs down Dodgy advertisers

Hi,

One of FT's ad serving modules is delivering ads from a company called hotcrazydeals.com. The ad promises:

£4.00 instead of £30.00 for credits on your Oyster card
It's probably going too far to call them scam artists, but this is basically a dupe to get you to enter your credit card details, you then get billed for a 'membership fee' if you don't cancel within 72 hours. I haven't gotten as far as trying to sign up, as I wouldn't trust a company "registered in Panama" with such sensitive info.

I don't think FT should be displaying ads from companies like these.

I agree -- can you take a screen shot and post a link to the ad so it can be blocked?

FT can't pre-screen every ad, so sometimes stuff like this gets through.

In a similar, but slightly different vein. I have a problem with the ad for the "Game of War" app. When the ad is displayed (on my ipad running IOS7) it forces the App Store to open, showing "Game of War". A quick google shows that other sites have had problems with this particular ad and have blocked it. Any chance Flyertalk could do the same?

Happens to me too -- I assume on your phone? I'll look into it.

On my Ipad, I don't think I could read FlyerTalk on a phone! But it would seem it is a problem for Android and IOS users.

Yes, I noticed browsing the forum on my iPad sometimes redirects me to App Store. Not a big fan of that I must say.

We're attempting to shut it down, but its periodic nature makes it hard to determine what ads are causing it. Screenshots would help a lot if you have them.

Today have been getting the App Store problem with an ad for Coast Opera browser. I have a screenshot but can't add from my ipad. Will try later.

And for me on the iPad - in fact just happened again as I tried to post on here! Has happened to me about 20 times over the last couple of days. Very annoying!

Sorry - the Game of War. Should have been more specific. I'm not very technical - do you mean what am I using - iPad 3 - not updated to the latest software.
