Loading issues due to Facebook Link
This is something that started happening a few days ago...:
Sometimes Flyertalk pages will take up to a minute to load, and occasionally fail to load altogether... all, according to the message at the bottom of my Firefox window, because of a slow response from ak.connect.facebook.com.
This is Flyertalk, not Facebook - and I think it's wrong that a non-responsive Facebook server should affect our ability to view Flyertalk pages. May I respectfully suggest that you look into ways of fixing this?

I'm having lots of loading issues starting this afternoon. It's not facebook, because I don't have FB linked. I even removed the FB option. I tried 3 different browsers, I.E. firefox and Chrome all experienced the same issue. Sometimes, the page loaded half way then stop.
I kept getting the " The Connection was Reset" error,
then click retry, it will reload again. It's intermittent. It's not my internet connection because, I'm getting to other sites without any problems. I switched to a different ISP and the "Connection was Reset" problem disappeared.
I kept getting the " The Connection was Reset" error,
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

This means that there were routeing problems between your ISP's server and Flyertalk's server. Think of it like a traffic jam. The connection from the other ISP was taking a different route which had no traffic jams.

Thanks for the reply. Next question - HOW do I disable Facebook Connect? Clicking on the Facebook Connect buttontakes me to a Facebook log-in place. Right-clicking gives me the usual "View image", "Copy image" etc options. And I can't find anything in my setting either.

I followed this thread and hit the hide facebook option, but I'm still getting the "connection was reset" page nearly every time I click on a thread. (including this thread) This does not happen on any other site. Started doing this a few days ago. Please fix whatever you did FT. Thanks.

Okay. Then Why is it that no other site has this problem?

It's not "no other site", it's "none of the other sites you have tried". If there is a traffic jam at a certain point it will affect traffic that goes past that point but not traffic that doesn't go past that point.
If you have problems getting to a site, and you want to know exactly which server along the route is causing the problem, try to traceroute to the site.

BTW, who's your ISP? In my case, I have problems with Comcast, but AT&T and Verizon are fine.

DeafFlyer, take a look at this thread. It's a known issue, which I don't think has been resolved yet. I've posted my question there, but so far, no response from the FT admin.

I use RCN for internet.
