How to insert pictures in a post

Hello. I've seen people insert photographs in their posts (.jpg file). I'm unable to locate the instructions. I see an "Insert Image" button above the text box, but it asks for the URL of my image, which doesn't make any sense. The photo (a scan actually) is on my laptop's hard drive.

Any help much appreciated.
