no power banks on Tap!?!

on my 4th leg, the FA approached me to stop use the power bank : "power banks are not allowed on TAP".
I was stunned. I used it successfully on the other 3 legs - no complains.

Last year I flew 70legs with various airlines. I never heard such an absurdity.

Didi you guys knew about this?

During the flight itself or during take off or landing?
all EU flights I’ve taken in the last few months have demanded that all charging cables are disconnected until the cruise or after the approach starts.

banned all the way.

you're not allowed to use them during flight either.

According to further explanation by the FA this is a relatively new rule, 2019, based on a couple of spontaneous combustion cases....

That might be a rogue crew Mis-understanding something.
Unless unenforced by other airlines, I don’t think it’s a real EU rule. 2 pax in the seats around me this morning charging…

Some airlines ban charging OF powerbanks, some ban charging USING powerbanks.

With TAP, it's the latter - you can bring a powerbank on board but cannot use it during the flight, according to their CoC.

Apparently, it's EASA that makes such recommendation:

Also, spare batteries, including power banks, should not be recharged while on board the aircraft. Additionally, power banks should not be connected or providing power to a device while on board the aircraft.
