I can support this as well, and kudos to all the hard work that's gone into it.

Cheers.

Motion Passed

Moved by kokonutz and seconded by Spiff

that images be allowed in all Miles and Points forums, Travel&Dining forums, Technical Services forums as well as all Community forums except the Special Interest travel forums.

and further that the TOS be amended to include the following language:

FlyerTalk allows posters with 20 posts or more to embed non-animated images in certain forums. All images must meet community standards, must convey relevant on-topic information and are allowed only in posts and not in signature lines. Images should be as small as needed to get the point across without being overbearing. Images that are offensive, irrelevant or violate the TOS will be removed by moderators and posters of such images may be subject to disciplinary action including, but not limited to, loss of image-posting privileges in one or more forums. Posters are responsible for the content of images embedded in their posts whether it is the image intended to be and/or originally posted or not. The FlyerTalk administrator may eliminate the ability to embed images in particular forums as a result of repeated violations by multiple posters in that forum.

Question: What is the reasoning against allowing, for example, a photo of Mecca taken during the haj to be permitted on TravelBuzz but prohibited on the Religious Travelers Forum?

Dovster, speaking for myself only, as I say upthread:

Sometimes perfect is the enemy of good enough. There were some concerns expressed about rolling out to ALL forums, and much talk about limiting the images to 'core' forums 'for now.'

This is a compromise.

And I do hope that everyone gets comfortable with the feature and it is used productively such that a full FT-wide implementation eventually happens.

When photos get allowed in a forum, will it be obvious how to post one? I tried to figure it out in the Japan forum and couldn't, so maybe it's not allowed there yet?

Here are sbm12's instructions on how to imbed pictures:

I'll defer on the Japan forum inclusion to Talkboard members. (I don't know.)

To clarify, I voted against this motion because it was my understanding that the technology would not permit what the motion proposed (disallowing images posted by members with fewer than 20 posts).

As shared with the TalkBoard, and without objection, I communicated the TalkBoard's request to Randy as including the 20 post rule if such was technically feasible.

Has this feature been turned on in the newly added forums? I don't see the icons in two forums I just checked.

Not that I've seen. But as we always say: we recommend, he decides...

I agree with koko.

This is a major move for FT and I'm assuming that Randy et al. are contemplating the recommendation.

And to confirm an earlier post, posting images takes a degree of technical expertise so there's a learning curve before we see these board-wide.

It's really no different than posting a URL link -- actually, it's exactly like that. It just requires clicking on a different button. At any rate, I understand that it's Randy's (and IBB's) ultimate call. I'm very glad, however, that TalkBoard has made the recommendation. I really think this will be a plus for FT.

Looks like you get a .jpg and surround it with [ IMG] and then [/ IMG], only it doesn't work in the Japan forum so I guess it isn't enabled there yet.
