Petition: Allow posting of one own's website in their signature line
I would like to start a petition to allow the following:
1) Link to one own's commercial website. I have a self owned business and would like for people to see my website just for information. Whether it helps me or not is not really important as my business is well set.
There is no shopping cart nor can you buy anything online. This is basically an online catalog that we made for our customers.
It cannot financially affect/defraud anyone. Neither does it pressure anyone nor it is set up for certain people.

I am 100% against this. Too many people use sites like FT to sign up and help increase their rankings in search engines. And while I'm sure your intentions are good, I don't think it's a good idea to have the Talkboard police who does, and does not get to display their commercial links.
The moderation team already spends 100's of hourse cleaning up spam and other forms of commercial abuse.

But since TB can do this on a case by case basis...like they did with the "Mission of the world" charity...
there should be some basic rules:
1) Member must be X yr contributor
2) Member must have x number of posts
3) web site should be selling anything/shopping cart
and any other rules that you wopuld think is fair and just.

I think that's a very good policy. Whether you can buy/order things directly from the site or not, a commercial site is a commercial site. I will hate to see our mod team spending more time dealing with is-this-a-spam-or-is-it-not-a-spam kind of "decisions".

I agree that making new distinctions would create more work for moderators. "No commercial signatures" is easy to understand and much less likely to lead to any disputes.
Besides, I don't see that such signatures would add any value to FT.

100% against this too. Opens things up to potential abuse far too easily and I can't see mods having the time to check every single link.
