The moderation team already spends 100's of hourse cleaning up spam and other forms of commercial abuse.
Agree with Scott & Oliver.

When I look further, KVS doesn't put any link in his signature nor "Additional Information" (i.e. what everyone gets to see in every post from said poster) in the public profile.

Whether an "exception" is granted to his mater KVS Tool threads, it beats me. Jenbel also pointed out another exception thread in CommunityBuzz! Forum. From what I can see, neither of these two "encourages" FTers promoting their own sites wherever they post.

I don't interpret nor reinforce TOS. Correct me if I am wrong. Based on my RBP correspondences with some mods, my impression is FT doesn't allow self-promoting commercial links (in one's signature or profile).

AFAIK, you are permitted to have a self-promoting or even commercial link in your profile, but not in your signature. The former does not subtract value from FT, IMHO, since profiles are only shown to people who look for them.

I see.

You mean for those who so desire, they can put the links in "Contact Info" (homepage, email...etc) but not in signature files. I assume no such link in the "Additional Information: Location & Programs" section as well, since those info is displayed and shown along with every post?

Off the top of my head, that's correct. The underlying idea is to avoid wasting the time of readers who are likely not interested in the commercial service.

Are we talking about "Commercial Signatures" or "Commercial Links in Signatures"?

That's still a commercial signature and it's not allowed.

How about disabling the ability to put links in a signature for new member. After all, they are not allowed to put links in posts for a certain amount of time.

I just reported another newbie commercial spammer with links in his signature.

I dunno... that seems pretty commercial to me.

Interestingly enought it also goes against the "Limit your signature to two lines." rule.

He's a travel employee who "works" in a forum on FT. His sig denotes who he is and that what he's posting is "fact" vs "conjecture".

A lot different than someone wanting to shill something, like, say Amway via a link on a sig.

The world is not black and white. I have no problem with the Lurker's sig.
