Here's some options I'vefound:
http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smilies/smilies.html
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/misc.php?do=showsmilies
The country flags are a nice touch.
My vote is nothing animated, or too large.

redbeard911....thanks for the comprehensive list of smilies.
I agree with others that the country flag list would be a great addition. And I also like the suggestions about any smilies or icons that have to do with travel.
I think we need to evaluate what amenities we offer here on FT and not just be satisfied with the status quo. If we can come up with some tweaks as a result of this thread then it's a win/win IMO.
This isn't the biggest challenge that faces FT but it's something we can address while handling other big picture issues.

Seriously , we need some additional convincing input here as it'll be an uphill battle.

While I certainly don't think that we need a huge addition of smilies, a small, purposeful collection would be nice. As stated above, maybe some related to travel would suit the forum, or maybe just a few more general smilies. I certainly support the concept.

Since I don't use the ones we already have, I don't need more. But if you do add some, PLEASE don't add animated ones; I find them annoying.

I don't think we need any more distractions in posts (font, size, colour, smilies, etc) than we already have.

We definitely need the "Santa" smiley from this
http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smilies/smilies.html board for Wharvey!!
I think the judicious use of smilies is great - and on more than one occassion
I'm certain they have diffused what could have become full blown flame-fests.
I wouldn't mind seeing a few new smilies added. I also like the flags - very

Couldn't they add seasonal ones?
Santa, Halloween, Easter?
And the Happy Birthday and puke year round?

I would propose that you eliminate them completely, they (along with the members who over-use them) are very annoying.

I think the smilies we have now are fine.
What I would suggest is getting rid of
, as it can, and often is misunderstood.
Perhaps there is a better one out there for sarcasm.

I would request a replacement for
, as it looks obscene. What's more, the tooltip says 'embarrassment', when the accepted meaning among the kids today is "eek!".
I notice that I frequently leave :$ in my posts (out of habit from using it in other places) so that would be nice as well. This should be 'embarrassed', but not look anything like the inflatable-sex-doll face above. See MSN Messenger for an example.
Nothing more though, unless someone can come up with some travel-related ones. I liked the airline logos in Chat.

And I like the ideas about seasonal/birthday smilies and those that are travel related.

I vote for more smilies.
One board I am on, Offtopic, has about 50 different smilies... sometimes they say what you think better than words.
