New Forum Request - Foreign Currency & Travelers Cheques
Since many of us travel internationally quite frequently, it could become a wonderful resource regarding something so pivotal in our travels. Discussions and debates of the best locations in and out of the USA for exchange rates for various countries, discussions on mail order or internet ordering exchange rates and discussions on fluctuations of exchange rates and how that could affect our travel. Discussions of Travelers Cheques, security, denominations, rates, etc. Discussions on best credit cards to use internationally, debit cards, international ATM withdrawal fees, etc. Discussions can then obviously flow to earning miles in purchasing of foreign currencies & travelers cheques. There have been posts throughout FT concerning this very topics but in a vast array of forums, as noted below. It would be great to combine our wisdoms in international travel while savig money in conversions and earning miles in the process.

Anyone have any ideas or thoughts? Or do you belive the current way of posting in TravelBuzz is sufficient?

My own $.02 would be a sticky in TravelBuzz!, but I leave that up to the moderator.

I'd love to see a central discussion of this sort of stuff. My $0.02 is that a sticky would get awful complicated with all of the various permutations and changes. I'd actually rather see a seperate area for it in this instance.

A sticky in TravelBuzz could inherently become complicated IMO, as the various discussions could be lengthy. Additionally, I don't dispute the fact that a majority of the posts are positioned correctly in TravelBuzz, some have obviously spilled over into the international airline forums of AC, BA, AF, etc. These discussions may initially be airline related, almost always linger over into non-forum relavent topics.
Additionally, how could a single or even a couple stickies be managed efficiently enough to accomodate the multitudes of topics? You'd almost end up having to manage multiple topics within a single sticky, and that could get quite... sticky (pun)

This request has been discussed in the TalkBoard.
There was no motion made to vote on the request, therefore it has been tabled.

We can have a site for movie reviews but not a place to discuss Foreign Currencies, Credit Card and ATM use abroad and Travelers Cheques? Something is terribly wrong...

This was thoroughly discussed from December 27 - 29, 2004. On January 10, 2005, attention was brought to the fact that there were further supporting data. No further discussion followed for a week, so it was reported by Spiff that the recommendation had been tabled for lack of a motion.
Respectfully, no one on the TalkBoard sees the necessity for it, so it seems unlikely that we're going to review it every month until we're convinced.
