FT tech / brand

How should we evolve to better fill that need?
How do we remain vibrant in this rapidly changing Internet world? What new technologies or structures in the board should we be asking Internet Brands to add in order to keep members coming back to us? How do we turn a newcomer who finds us thru Google search into a contributing member? Is it important to retain a sense of community? If so, how do we best do that with such a large community? Is there anything we can do systemically to help foster that? Is it important to keep FlyerTalk in the press? Should TB develop a database of those willing to field press queries and their field of expertise? What about bloggers? Should we ask IB to expand their platform to host blogs? If so, what content is sought? has IB discussed any of their investments in technology and/or brand expansion, like Top Flyer? |
I'm interested in this too. It seems like Top Flyer is used by an extremely small number (40-50?) of FTers despite announcements in various forums.

We had some discussion of that site in the New Features forum, but that was a full year ago. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/new-features-676/ Maybe it's time to eliminate the New Features forum while we're at it. With only 7 active threads the last 12 months, can be merged with sometime else like the Suggestions forum (retitle Suggestions/New Features)? |

maybe those who do participate in Top Flyer noticed some discussion from IB?
clearly im not talking about "what Top Flyer is" but IB's development process.

Perhaps its time to ask about features and post suggestions in the suggestions forum instead of the TB forum :)?
SanDiego1K suggested TB work on FT tech / brand expansion. that requires IB. if IB has said anything on this, TB needs to know what/where. members can post in suggestions forum. TB can communicate directly to SanDiego1K and/or IB. |

Isn't the Talk Board tasked with forum creation/deletion and even merging of forums? Does anyone from the Talk Board regularly monitor or post in the Suggestions forum? I think comments about forum creation/mergers appropriately belong in the Talk Board forum as they always have.

has this kind of thing come up in public TB forum before?

considering election / potential election questions, bumping

my point was that there are ways for these "discussions" to be constructive, rather than complaints about things TB has nothing to do with. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/new-f...-feedback.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/talkb...bile-apps.html |

Internet Brands is here to make a profit, they do have to pay for all the expenses running a huge site like FT so why not capture the credit card revenue currently going into the pockets of bloggers? Maybe set up a whole newbie miles and points clinic in which the mods or ambassadors or whatever guide the newbie through the basics, links are provided to the usual credit cards but they are not given the advanced secrets and loopholes until they are ready to learn on their own via the usual forums.
specifically regarding that thought and TB, there could be a forum to go along with that content. * and that might be a bridge for those who ONLY look at blogs, to eventually move to main FT forum. 1 - forum (to go with official blog) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/talkb...orum-blog.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/talkb...urn-forum.html CC churn/etc forum would mainly be an organizational change "cleaning" milesbuzz (currently 11 of first 25 threads are CC) as well as moving any and all threads from other forums into one single forum * additionally it could act as a transition forum for new members who are coming from blogs/etc also maybe have discussion subforum like mileage run deals [did more recently] - for technical, help, etc 2 - one or two forums

In 2013, every mainstream website that discusses credit cards must discuss frequent-flier miles and hotel points or it's an incomplete website. Thus a larger pool of people who don't actually travel frequently are participating in the FFP process. This gives rise to blogs and has over the years changed the tone of this forum dramatically.
A few years ago, the front page of Milesbuzz would mostly be the hottest current airline promos - who's doing a DEQM, who has a popular route on a segment bonus, who has a special award offer, etc. Maybe the occasional hotel or rental car promo would slip in. Today it's all credit cards. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/talkb...milesbuzz.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/talkb...-bloggers.html |
CC churn forum could appear right next to milesbuzz on front page
(IIRC this was a response to discussion in another thread, dont remember what) |

done - manufacturer/etc & blogs/etc potential - newbie & churning id think these could all be grouped under one forum heading a related issue might be whether to make milesbuzz and travelbuzz more specific (getting back to what they were like originally?) and perhaps moving overflow from both existing into one new forum that is more general

- IB owns frugaltravelguy and FT. frugaltravelguy could link FT, like a "newbie" forum
- a "newbie" forum would be bridge for other blog readers (discussing content not bloggers) to move from there to FT - IMHO a "newbie" forum could also be a "churn" forum, in other words "newbie/churn" - as i said somewhere, there are people i would have referred to "newbie" forum, but FT doesnt have one yet. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/talkb...ech-brand.html - i consolidated some of the TB/etc threads before apr 18 2013 |
