Question MR Check-In / Connecting Advice

Hi FTs!

As we will do our very first MR this weekend (19th/20th) I am unsure
about how to check-in best.
Our routing is ZRH-VIE, VIE-ZRH-FRA, FRA-ZRH-VIE, VIE-ZRH.

Is it possible - and would you recommend - to check in at ZRH at once
for all four outbound flights on Saturday and again for the inbound flights
on Sunday?

Do you have further advice for easy connecting in VIE and FRA?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanx in advance
Hein

I'd suggest getting all your boarding passes per day at the ZRH transit desk where in my experience people were most competent. Transfer in VIE is easy, you walk out of the plane, turn around (or stop by the AUA lounge first if you can), go through security again and re-board. Don't know about FRA.

Agree with Airoli. Get all boarding passes before your first flight in the morning.
Check in agents CAN issue all boarding passes before your first flight.

The only thing they have trouble doing is "sticking" all your flights together, i.e. telling the system that you connect from your first flight to so many connecting flights.
There seems to be a limit to the number of onward connnections they can enter.
...you will notice what they do by the time it takes them to check you in.

Being checked in can be quite helpfull in FRA, as you usually arrive in a faraway busgate location, have to wait for everyone to squeeze into the bus, get the free bus tour of the whole airport, pass security and rush all the way accross terminal D or E and finally to the gate.
(Great: Another bus tour back to the plane...)
It will save you some nerves if you're holding a boarding pass doing this.

By the way: FRA has poor signage - unbelieveably poor for such a big airport. There are some monitors every now and then, sometimes they even work. You can find your departure gate there. The public departure boards are very sparse and well hidden.

Thanks a lot, AirOli and LoungeLizzard!
I will gladly do it like you recommended.
Hopefully the weather will not cross my plans.

Was fun to have a nice little FT meeting in the lounge, and AndyZRH's restaurant choice was pretty cool as well.

I don't envy you guys doing more than one weekend. 8 flights is enough for me.

I wonder what they will think for the next 12 months when they look at my mileage account .... Crazy thing, but fun as well.

Next, I booked MXP-FCO-AMS-DTW-PIT with a KL discounted biz ticket between Christmas and Newyear. Not really a mileage run, just a detour via Rome to squeeze out enough miles.

Thanks again

Hi again,

as announced, my better half and I did our very first MR this weekend.
Everything went great and at least on ZRH-VIE we detected one other weirdo
flying instantly back. Now we are looking forward that our STC-accounts will
hopefully skyrocket by 72k mls.
So thanks again for all your tips and help - and maybe there will be a chance
to meet any FT on a future trip.

C-Ya

MR feedback

I'm still alive after having flown my first 18 legs of 24. Quite every thing went fine, it was a lot of fun to fly with several FT an to meet you guys in the lounges on my first MR weekend.
Unfortunately I couldn't use the lounges last saturday (will be the same tomorrow) as I have no status yet on STC But this is going to change soon I hope .

It's a bit hard to fly 6 legs per day, but it's still a lot of fun, and much more fun than buying peppermint tea even if it's more expensive to get the miles.
For all of those who are on MRs tomorrow, have a safe trip!

LH miles&more offered to me (from oct-15 through dec-15-2005) an additional 50% on all status miles earned, in a personalized letter to help me maintain Senator status (which expires by feb-2006).

To reach the 100'000 status miles I just booked the following LX weekend promotion in paid business class, in business class no minimum stay is needed for those weekend promotions:

Sunday, nov--27-2005
(train Zrich HB - GVA 06:04-08:56)
LX 2807 GVA-ZRH 10:10-11:00
LX 1018 ZRH-DUS 12:30-13:50
LX 1019 DUS-ZRH 14:45-16:05
LX 2810 ZRH-GVA 17:45-18:35
(train GVA - ZH HB via Biel: 19:04-21:56)

miles&more status-mileage calculation (business, 25% Senator bonus, plus extra 50% on all status miles earned):
GVA-ZRH 1'875 + 937 = 2'812 status miles
ZRH-DUS 2'500 + 1'250 = 3'750 status miles
DUS-ZRH 2'500 + 1'250 = 3'750 status miles
ZRH-GVA 1'875 + 937 = 2'812 status miles
total 13'124 status miles

costs including taxes SFr 493.00 (3,7 Rappen/status mile = not that bad for status miles, considering that I need them to mainain Senator status for another two years)

(train with my Generalabonnement)

Lounges
GVA (LX business or Senator Lounge) 09:15 - 09.40
ZRH (LX business Lounge) 11:15 - 11:45
DUS (Senator Lounge) 14:00-14:20
ZRH (LX business Lounge) 16:15-17:15
