Aeroplan mileage ticket

guys - i'm seeing some absurb taxes with a businses class mileage award JFK-ZRH-BOM. It's $684 in taxes and 90k miles. Does that sound correct? I thought only LHR imposed such high fees

That's actually not too bad - I've seen them as high as $900 for journeys from the US. Essentially all the LH-Group carriers change this level in YQ.

Yes, United don't charge YQ. The LH Group carriers (and for example BA and VS) all charge very substantial YQ 'carrier imposed surcharges'.

United cannot pass the carrier surcharges (US law) on award tickets. Aeroplan doesn't have that limitation, therefore you will see and have to pay the carrier imposed surcharges.
