Question Avatars?

Hello.

Now sure if this is the correct area (feel free to move this thread), but I am wondering why this forum isn't equipped with avatars. I'm sure there's a logical explanation.

Thanks ya'll in advanced...

Would there be a logical explanation as to why they should be expected? I visit many other boards, and every one that has avatars looks awful. The only kind of avatar I wouldn't mind here would be an airline related one, but I think it would just add more clutter. FT is nice and low bandwidth intensive at the moment (for those with the premium version with no ad's).

I see no value in them. The avatars I see on other BBS are totally unrelated to anything - pets, rock stars, random graphics. They add clutter, take up screen real estate and increase load times. Just my 2, but I say leave 'em off. (If you absolutely have to have some kind of avatar, go to Chat and pick an airline logo.)

Although I have to admit I like avatars and use them on sites where they're allowed, I don't see them as beneficial here on FT. Avatars, especially those with motion, can be very distracting. Plus there are tons of avatars that are XXX-rated and/or insulting and argumentative. And as a moderator I could see this as a problem in trying to decide what was or wasn't allowable.
As others have stated here, a defined group of static airline logo avatars would probably work. But I see FT as a site who's main purpose is to provide information for maximizing points and miles as well as discussing tips, tricks and advice for enhancing our travel experience. And avatars would tend to detract from that discussion IMO.

Okay. Thanks.

I agree with you all. I was just curious why there wasn't any of them here.

I also agree that Airline logos would be okay, but I'm fine as-is.

Agree 100%. We do not need them.
