I have posted almost daily on FlyerTalk, since its inception seven years ago. During that time I have made every effort to be kind, helpful, supportive and polite in all my posts. This is true, despite the fact that I have been continuously stalked, and harassed by a small group of FlyerTalkers, both on FlyerTalk and throughout the internet--curiously a number of this group are Flyer Talk moderators. I am proud to say that I have religiously ignored even their most vile and disgusting attacks. If FlyerTalk ever decides to give an award to the member who has most successfully ignored trolls over the years, I should at least be a runner up, if not the winner. ^

Note: This group will in all likelihood make their identity known by posting to this thread, very shortly.

Last fall there was a rash of mysterious bannings of high-profile FlyerTalkers. After the banning of a very popular (and BTW successful) Talk Board candidate, I too was banned, presumably for making this very reasonable and innocuous post:

I most certainly did not attack any particular moderator, I was most definitely not rude or unkind. I simply made what I thought was a very reasonable suggestion, and for this I was banned, without warning, and without discussion of any kind.

The vast majority of FT Moderators do an excellent job, but spurious actions like these, by a small few, really do erode the credibility of the honorable majority.
I agree with everything in this post, 100%.

The time-outs given to some FT'ers (myself included) for pretty laughably innocuous "offences", by another FT'er already on TB, who apparently did not like the way the election debate and results were heading, was a serious black blot on Flyertalk. IMHO.

The stifling of discussion and gross editing without trace of countless posts on the Talk Board Forum was quite something to watch.

The heavy handed censorship of comment in Robert Mugabe's recent Zimbabwe election comes to mind for some reason. Just co-incidence, I am sure.

Unlike in Zimbabwe, those few trying so desperately, and so transparently to get the slate result they wanted here did NOT succeed. IMHO.

I also would like to briefly address this, just to say that I think it must be an exceptionally difficult balancing act, balancing 1) a desire to encourage contributions from members (who may or may not be moderators) who add lots of value without - at the same time - coddling misbehavior (a dreary, administrative concern, I suppose), along with 2) consistent enforcement of the rules, even when that means the moderators are subjected to disciplinary action, as well.

Personally, I certainly couldn't do it - I just know it - so I find it awesome that people can. ^^ to all who do! (This Bud's for you... )

I've seen the requisite dictatorship comparison, aren't we overdue for an Animal Farm quote?

(I'd provide it, but haven't read it in a few years. )

I appreciated RP comments on page one this thread, less so those of others. Having this discussion IMHO is healthy and, if nothing else, at least we can all agree on one thing: we all enjoy FT enough to take an active role in it's workings. I wish more members scanned this far down the dial...
