Syndication (Blog/RSS)
Are there any plans to support content syndication, perhaps via Blogs/RSS for FlyerTalk forums?
I am a big fan of FlyerTalk but would like to be able to subscribe to and review the forums that interest me via my newsreader rather than have to visit the flyertalk.com site with my browser.

That may be an option once we upgrade to vBB and get FT moved into a database environment.

If automatic creation of an RSS stream doesn't work how about having members of Flyertalk make a daily version with all the most active topics and post it as RSS and an Avantgo page, I for one would love this and would gladly help out.

Well, I worked for WEEKS on putting this together as a gift for the FT community.*
Enjoy.

SWU and VIPOW gifts gladly accepted.
*It's a joke - this is the standard RSS url for vBulletin systems. I wasn't kidding about the certs though.
Enjoy.

Actually, Dan spent quite a bit of time working on this -- we just haven't rolled it out yet, and unfortunately the feeds don't give you any content -- just headlines.

Well I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth but I don't usually read the whole forum and I'm not interested enough in the posts outside the forums I frequent to subscribe to them. Any way you would consider doing it by forum or even thread? :-:

Hi John at Webflyer. I have already seen those feeds, but they are for Flyertalk as a whole rather than for, say, the AA forum. What I'd like to be able to do is see the latest updated threads in the AA forum, and not, say Delta or OMNI. Given the high activity on Flyertalk in general, I'm not sure that a Flyertalk-wide feed is all that useful (although I could be wrong!).

Also, just having headlines is just fine if it were more specific to area

I'll check it out -- I think that it's possible.

Actually it's not just possible -- it's easy.

That is the rss feed for suggestions. For other forums replace the forumids variable with the forum number. I'll work on a way to add an rss link in each forum page to make it easier for you guys.
Titles is all you get with the builtin rss system from vBulletin so that's that for right now.

OK -- take a look under the quicklinks dropdown menu at the top of the page. I have added links for the Forum rss 1 and rss2 feeds. The link matches what ever forum you are in at the time you pull the menu down so this will give you the feeds for the various forums.

John,
Much appreciated. One more request -- not sure how hard this one is. In the RSS2 feed, I do get the right links under each header, but the headers themselves all link directly to http://www.flyertalk.com/forum instead of their respective forums.
For example, here's an excerpt from the top of the Coupon Connection RSS2 feed:
The problem area is the first <link> note -- that URL should point directly to the Coupon Connection forum, at least in my ever-so-humble opinion.
Anyway, it's almost thanksgiving, so... THANKS!
Dave
