DOC is a free clipping engine - he is the archive of FT and adds incredible value by contributing so much time to this effort.

Thank you doc for making FT a more valuable resource!

Give him a Pulitzer prize.

I like Doc. If you don't, then just don't read his post's.

Oops! Sorry again! I am on a different key board so I have more troubles than I usually do! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

This is the comment from "gamble" with which I agree the most:

"I am trying to make a point on Doc and his habit of digging up old threads and adding subject matter that is, AT BEST, slightly related to the topic title and at worst not related at all. If there was a way to see that Doc was the last poster before opening the thread, this would not be an issue. Since there is not, I end up opening threads and re-reading them just to discover the content is up to a year old with a Doc post at the end. It's that simple."

Yes! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Thank you! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I agree! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Gee, thanks. Did you even bother to read my post? How can I tell that it is a DOC post when he adds to an existing thread started by someone else? If he would just start a new thread (or even better post in the In The News forum) there would be no issue.

Thanks for taking the time to write. I appreciate knowing there are others who feel as strongly as I do that something has to be done. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Again, hasn't this "issue" come up in various other earlier threads previously including this one?

Will it ever stop?

You have some nerve!!! Let me shout it for you so that you might hear it this time..

STOP DRAGGING UP OLD THREADS TO POST AN UPDATE! START A NEW THREAD!

Get it? If you do, then this will stop. If not, and if you feel that you can do whatever you want, then please extend the same to me. I will keep posting about your annoying habit as well.

Bottom line: You stop and I stop. Fair?

Worse still are threads that doc starts, and no one replies to, and then to which he continues to add more and more "updates." It's like having a conversation with oneself. Get a clue...if NOT ONE PERSON responds to a thread, then NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN THE TOPIC! If they were, they would reply to it!!!

While I have no desire to enter the general discussion going on here, I don't think the above is strictly correct.

Maybe it's bad manners, or lack of time, or a desire to save bandwith, but I often click on a link which has been supplied by an FTer and find it very interesting and useful. I rarely, however, go back to the post and post "great link - thanks very much" unless I have something more substantive to add!

My apologies...I was under the impression that this was a discussion board.

Rudi Oct 30, 2002 2:59 pm

to my knowledge, the lurker vs. poster ratio is higher than 15:1 here on FlyerTalk.

I learned more (but not really from doc's posts ...) lurking (learning from others expiriences and knowledge) here, than from the answers I got to my questions or the discussions I was involved in.

Well, I thought it was a bulletin board! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

But obviously a lot of benefits come from discussion, but then there can be a lot of noise which doesn't benefit the general discussion. Which is what I suppose I was trying to avoid by not posting. But then I suppose that it's what you're trying to avoid too! And before I can involved any further in the debate I said I didn't want to get involved in, I'm signing off! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I agree with you completely Rudi, but I'm talking more about threads like this one for example. What is the rationale for this? Then multiply this example times 10 or 20, and it's understandable why some people might be annoyed! I'll ask this again: is OMNI a 24-hour news service? Do people look to the OMNI forum as their primary source of news? There are literally thousands of websites on the internet devoted strictly to news stories. Do every one of those sites need to be rehashed here by one person?
