myFT - have it your way

Tired of seeing a long list of forums, most of which do not interest you?  Many people would like to see the ability to have a MyFlyerTalk (myFT) kind of front page where you customize which forums you choose to list so that your favorites are right there in front of you instead of having to perform that inane, annoying task otherwise known as scrolling the page.

So, I've decided to cobble together a really, really ugly trial version (@Miles section only).  This is not meant to be "FT for dummies".  In case you missed it the first time, I'll say it again: u-g-l-y alpha version only.  Caveat emptor.

1. Select the forums you want to see in your "myFT homepage".

OK

2. Click the "Generate" button.

OK

3. A new window will pop up with your customised homepage.

OK

4. Save the file to your hard disk somewhere and bookmark the file.

Hmmm ... not sure about this. Am I dense? Using IE 5.0 on a Mac.

By the way, it's not ugly, it's simple.

Until I figure out a way to store your preferences in a string or a cookie, saving the customised homepage is the only way to do it, short of going to the "myFT" generator page everytime.

LOL! I think we misunderstood each other. After Step 3, I'm lost. I'm not sure how I am supposed to do Step 4, that's all. Thanks for your help.

To clarify, what I mean in step 4 is that you go File / Save and save the resulting HTML page somewhere on your computer. You can then make a shortcut / bookmark to your "custom FT homepage". If you want to change what's on your myFT page, just go back to the myFT generator and select a new set of forums.

Aha! I figured out where I messed up. In step 4, when I saved the file, IE proposed to save under a "web archive" format (sorry, I'm translating from French). I should have saved under "HTML Source".

It works. And it works well.

How is it supposed to deal with the folder icons being "new" or "old" for each topic?

The new/old topic icons are determined by cookies, I think and shouldn't be affected. There's no way for me to get lightbulbs to work tho, becuase that requires a live connection to the FT database.
