It would be nice to be able to view the threads (even the long ones) all on one page.
I *hate* having to go and click next page all the time.
Even a setting to show 100 or 200 posts per page would be sufficient.

A lot of us have high-speed internet connections, so I'm not sure why we shouldn't be able to have more than 40 posts on a single page. Several other websites seem to be able to do it fine without any more lag on the server.

This is one of those things that seems like it should be easy, but in fact requires much testing to ensure a change doesn't negatively impact the site.
Having said that, it's on the list to be tested - I'm just not sure when.
Now, as someone who also prefers to view as many posts per page as possible, I have a little workaround you might find interesting. The archived version of each thread actually displays 250 posts per page. To view the archived version of any thread, all you need to do is change the url a little. For example, the url for this thread would be changed from:
to
The downsides? Appearance isn't as polished and you can't post a reply from the archived thread page.
Still, it can come in handy when all you want to do is read a long thread.

It's more than just polish that is a problem with the archive version of a thread: BB Code tags are not processed. No big deal for [b], [i], and the like, but it can get real confusing when other tags (like [quote] and [strike]) are just ignored.

A friendly bump of this thread to see if IB might be willing to expand the capabilities of FT to allowing more than 40 posts per page. Perhaps an unlimited number on a single page is not an option, but surely I would hope more than 40 could be. Even 100 would make for a MUCH better experience, IMO.

Pagination will not be changing any time soon, lo2e. Combination of advertising/technical issues prohibits this, but thanks for the suggestion.

As for "advertising", seems like you could easily put in as many ad-view opportunities as you like to have equal or better value to advertisers. You can copy the right side ads all the way down. You can re-insert the page top and bottom ads every 30-40 posts, etc.
As for "technical", you should be able to figure it out if you have any meaningful technical competence. Please don't give up so easily. It would be a great addition and I think people would read more posts and view more ads because of it.
At the very least, can you put some big and easy to click "Next>" button at the bottom of the page.
