There are a few ways to get a Panorama.
1. Book one on the PH website directly
2. Pay the upgrade fee of $150/nt at check-in (if available)
3. Promise the front desk clerk a new bmw after you hit it big on the crap tables.
4. Slip the f/d clerk a nice tip sandwich with your id/plat card/cc
I'm actually going to be there next week myself..

Last year I was a SPG zero and received a renovated room, 17th floor, facing the Bellagio directly. Here are some photos of the room and view from the window:
Will be hoping for a suite next time I go there as a new Plat

I am this month a gold and I got the same crap. Was told that Gold members don't get anything because the hotel does not belong to Sheraton... "Our hotel is only managed by Sheraton"...

??? That has NEVER been a benefit of SPG Plat at any property, so no. As for upgrades--I've been upgraded to Strip View Suite, but never to the newer renovated rooms (my last stay was 2 weeks ago-- room 2553--view of Belliago / Strip, but not an upgraded room or floor).

Does Mandalay Bay really have smoke-free casino? I've stayed there numerous times and have always been bothered by the smoke. In fact, I usually walk over to MGM Grand to gamble as they at least have non-smoking pits- though usually open at night, not during the day.
That said, I do know that most casinos, including MB, PH and MGM have a non-smoking option. If you're 1st to the table, you can ask for it to become non-smoking. They'll put up a sign saying so- I just did it at PH last week. And if there are other people at the table, you can ask them if they'd mind a non-smoking table. You'd be surprised at how many people love that option. The dealers LOVE it (as far as I can see) because they don't much care for smoke in their faces all night.
If there were a smoke free casino in Vegas, I would go there regulalry. So if MB has opened one, I'll be there later this month with bells on!

Some of the suites have been reno'd. but not all. It is on a floor by floor basis. If you want a reno'd room or suite, ask at check-in. They will give you one if available.
PH is not your typical *Wood property. As I mentioned in a previous post, they are in the casino business and not the resort business. Their primary focus is on gambling. Expect to hear this answer "Well, we are a casino and we don't do that here." Although they have made some headway, don't have the same expectations that you would have at a normal *Wood hotel.
Any *Wood members looking for smoke-free gambling close by, head across the street to the Westin. The casino is pretty small but you don't have to play next to someone smoking a $2 stogie.

Bliss,
The standard upgrade for plats is the strip suite. It's not really a 2 room suite but a larger room with a seating area. The saving grace would be the large round bathtub with limited fountain views. Like everything else, you have to ask for the upgrade. Otherwise, they will just put you anywhere. If a renovated strip suite is not available, I usually take the renovated resort room.
The difference between the renovated rooms and non-renovated ones is night and day. I've stayed at PH probably 20 times last year and I would take a renovated closet over the older rooms no matter what
