There is no formal benefit being discussed here. It's a perk some, but not all, Plat members have received in the past. Last time around, only Plats with 25 actual stays got it. This year, who knows.... it may or may not happen at all. Either way, you'll only know if your eligible if you are informed by SPG that you are....

No 50% offer. And thus, no survey.

  • While Amazon will ship books (unless very heavy), DVDs. music, and VHS videos anywhere there are other items that they won't ship outside the US. There goes using that GC on a new iPod, Kindle or earphones.
  • Pottery Barn only ships to the UK.
  • Nordstrom.com was closed when I wrote this so no clue. (No, really, I was redirected to http://closed.nordstrom.com)
  • Starbucks Cards are accepted at "most Starbucks locations in North America and in select countries internationally. Most stores in Australia, Hong Kong and the U.K. can accept the Starbucks Card. Please note that Starbucks Cards issued in Japan or Spain may only be used in the countries in which they are issued. " ... "At this time, the Starbucks Card is not accepted at all airport, grocery, bookstore, casino, university, and hotel locations; nor at stores in Puerto Rico or Guam."
  • "Gift certificates and gift cards purchased on the iTunes Store are valid for use only in the country in which they were purchased. Gift certificates purchased in the United States may only be redeemed by residents of the United States." If you don't have a US-based credit card then you aren't going to be able to open a US-based iTunes account to redeem the card.
Not that I'm especially interested in the GC option, but there are three other reasons why this doesn't work very well:
  • shipping charges ... can be unpredictable & expensive
  • hassle dealing with the import process
  • customs duty & sales tax liability - you could easily be hit with a 30% extra charge when importing goods, oftentimes this is hard to predict

Last years certificate arrived after it could be used

William, I still have my 50 % off Starpoints certificate from last year. Unfortunately it arrived in Australia after the last date I could use it
I immediately rang the Starwood's Singapore office but they said there was nothing they could do as the offer period had finished.

You may wish to PM Starwood Lurker II for help/ideas on this. Although it's really waaaaaay late by now ;-)

I value this promo greatly - I was just unable to use it in the timeframe offered.
Hi u2vox,

I doubt all Plats who did not use this gift entitlement receive the survey. I believe it should be a selected group of members.

I believe I just started lurking around this forum towards the end of this promotion. Or is it later? Hmm..

Do send me a PM if you need my assistance.

What ever happened with this...do we think the 50% off award will arrive again this year? And if so, about when have they historically sent them?
