Maybe there is answer to this already, maybe the Lurkers can find out, maybe it just wait and see.

I have the Chase Personal Visa and SPG Business Amex.

I am chasing lifetime point on the MR side to qualify for LTPP

I would like to take advantage of the 4x Categories on the Biz Amex.to make the path smoother

Currently SPG points don't count as MR Lifetime,
Will they after Aug 18 or will only point earned after the 18th count or SPG points will never count as MR lifetime
Do I have to merge accounts to make them count if they can be counted.

I have some good CC spend opportunities in later Aug and I would like the make the most of them from a lifetime status perspective.

Thanks for any insight

Hey Bresnab,

Please note that SPG does not count lifetime points. SPG has history on Lifetime nights and years at Elite status. Members may earn lifetime Platinum Premier status by achieving 750 nights and 10 years of Platinum Elite status as well. An "Eligible Status Year" is a calendar year during which an Elite Member obtained Elite Status.

Kind Regards,

You have until the end of the year to earn MR LTP status and gain MPG LTPP. That is by doing 750 nights and 2M points. These nights/points must be at legacy MR properties not SPG regardless of your accounts being merged or not. If merging your accounts will let you end up with 750 nights and 10 years of SPG Plat + MR Gold/Plat status, then you should get MPG LTPP. I do believe the third route is 750 SPG nights and 10 years of Plat. Failure to make one of these three goals by 12/31 puts MPG LTPP out of reach (for now).

I believe the poster is asking about how credit card points work within this framework, not points from property stays which you have accurately captured. I too am interested in the answer to this as well, but my focus in on points coming from the Marr Visa, whereas the previous poster is inquiring whether SPG Amex points qualify toward the legacy Marr LTP 2M.

The Lurker has clearly stated that if a member earns 750 nights between the two programs and has 2mm points in the MR program without considering any SPG points the member will earn LTPP in the new program. The answer above appears to intentionally skip the fourth method which makes the answer misleading. It is one thing to mention the fourth method but explain why one uninformed person finds it unbelievable, but it is deceptive to lead people to believe the fourth method does not exist.

From the wiki, Question B8:
Do Marriott members with 2MM uncombined lifetime MR points and with 750 combined lifetime MR nights and lifetime SPG nights qualify for LTPP?
Yes.This is confirmed at members.marriott.com under the Benefits and Lifetime tab where it specifically states, “You can also qualify for Lifetime status via the existing criteria for Rewards and SPG through December 31, 2018.” Existing legacy criteria for earning Lifetime Platinum Premier in MR/RCR is 750 Lifetime nights + 2MM Lifetime points. Also, in August, when members combine Rewards and SPG accounts, their lifetime nights across both programs count toward Lifetime Elite status in the new combined program. To be included in at previous thresholds for Rewards or SPG, members will have until December 31, 2018, to complete stays in order to achieve the Lifetime Elite status. <added by Starwood Lurker 20Jun18 >

When will Marriott officially relay back to us how many 50 night+ elite years we have on record with them? Will that also happen on the 18th... after we combine our SPG and MR accounts... end of the calendar year?

Yes that is what I am asking, you said it much simpler than I did.

So to sum up, Will SPG Amex points qualify toward the legacy Marr LTP 2M after August 18th?

SPG does not count points, and after Aug 18, points won't matter anymore in the combined program. Points only count if you are planning to qualify by the end of the year using Marriott legacy program/hotels.

Only 10 days left now. I'm pretty excited! And I'm even more excited to hear about the next promotion.

Do we have any word on exactly how the SPG 50 qualification free night amenity/choice will be converted/liquidated? Doesn't look like I'll use it prior to Aug 18.

Not sure I understand your question but William did confirm that if you hit 50 nights under the old rules and pocket 10 SNAs and then hit 75 nights under the new rules you can pocket five more SNAs for a total of 15 for the year. That would imply the SNAs awarded at fifty nights would just carry forward with no issue. I would choose it before the 18th just to ensure there is no issue.

10 SNAs @ 50 nights are a long gone benefit

That was a question from the wiki which remained "pending" according to the Lurker. I'm hoping it'll be converted to unrestricted points as I too have no use for it until year end. Another possibility is that it gets mapped to a new Category or points-based value, expiring on Dec 31 (or hopefully with extended validity).

Either way, we'll find out in 10 days.

Nothing to do with SNAs.

Exactly, Q16 has never been addressed specifically. Thanks, was seeing if I had missed something regarding this particular cert. Current SPG Cat 5 is 12K-16K so there's wide variability in how this can be dealt with.
