Thanks Starwood Lurker, Sir.
Since I don't know what , exactly, these 'floating rumors' are (only that they sound scary) I can't be of help.
But thanks for your response which means, no merging until August 18th.
I'm really going to miss SPG, the OLD SPG, by the way.

The current theory is that if one wants to earn status based upon legacy program rules you do not want to merge your two accounts now. This was first floated by the Lurkers but nothing has been published. Now unless your merged status will be greater than what you have now, I'd suggest leaving your accounts separate until more data is known.
No worries. The question was directed to RichardD408 anyway, so hopefully we'll be able to get to the bottom of it when/if he replies.

William, I always have faith in your statements, it's your sources (not pointing at MR) I do not trust.

I wouldn't hold out on a response from him, but I have been scouring the board and my emails to find my source. Sadly, I have not been able to find the item(s). There was a recent email that linked to a webpage that repeated the same than once merged no legacy earning. But again, not found today. So much is being thrown around it's tough to keep up. I do, however, stand by my claim, and the advice I've given is unless there is a motivating reason, do not merge your accounts right away. There are lots of details not yet released and I am all for someone else being the pioneer.

And, I realize the choice to merge accounts or not is a personal one, so each member is going to have to weigh the advantages against their risk quotient. However, that being said, I can't come up with any negatives in my own mind. After all, when you combine your accounts, your elite night balance and points will be added together, so you may qualify for a status boost. You'll also have only one login/member number to remember and you'll be able to earn and redeem points across all 29 participating brands using one account.
To me, that's a great deal of return for those who need to combine accounts for a status boost with no risk that I can personally think of. But, I can also see the benefit of waiting until the dust clears since we will have a little over 4 months to get all the legacy qualifying done.

No worries. I've already said that after August 18th we're all going to be a lot smarter than we are now and we'll discover what we got right, what we got wrong, and possibly what may have just been misunderstood.
