PATHWAYS TO LIFETIME PLATINUM PREMIER ELITE STATUS:

1. Legacy Marriott Lifetime Platinum - 750 [MR+SPG] nights & 2MM Marriott Rewards points earned - not available after 1/1/2019
2. New Combined Program - 750 [MR+SPG] nights & 10 years combined/total as Platinum members previously under MR and/or SPG as of 12/31/2018 - not available after 1/1/2019

From members.marriott.com:

NOTE: Members that reach 750 nights and 10 years at Platinum by December 31, 2018 will be grandfathered into Lifetime Platinum Premier Elite status (notified January 2019).

FAQ from members.marriott.com

Q: CAN I EARN LIFETIME STATUS UNDER THE LEGACY REQUIREMENTS (ACTIVE PRIOR TO AUGUST 2018) FOR LIFETIME ELITE STATUS IN MARRIOTT REWARDS, RITZ-CARLTON REWARDS OR SPG? IF SO, WHEN WILL I BE NOTIFIED OF MY LIFETIME ELITE STATUS?

A: Yes, in addition to earning based on the new criteria, members can earn Lifetime Elite Status under the legacy requirements through the end of 2018. If Lifetime status is achieved by legacy requirements, between August and December 31, 2018 you will receive notice of your updated Lifetime Elite status in January 2019. If Lifetime status is achieved based on the new criteria, you will be notified both in August 2018 as well as any time it is achieved through the end of the year.

Example: An SPG member has 300 Lifetime nights, 4 years of Gold Elite Status, and 1 year of Platinum Elite Status after August, 2018. Under the SPG legacy Lifetime requirements, this member would earn Lifetime Gold Elite status which would reflect in their account January 2019.

Q: IF I WILL NOT BE GRANDFATHERED INTO LIFETIME PLATINUM PREMIER ELITE, WILL I HAVE THE ABILITY TO EARN INTO THIS LEVEL IN 2018?

A: Yes, members can earn Lifetime Platinum Premier Elite in 2018 if they achieve 750 Lifetime nights and 10 years at Platinum Elite status. This requirement is only for 2018 and will not be continued in future years. Members will receive notice of this Lifetime achievement in January 2019.

Switch your business now and make all your extended team for whom you sign off expenses jump through flaming hoops to reimburse Marriot/SPG expenses and give them a free ride elsewhere.

That doesn't change the outcome but does materially damage the Marriott business and that is the only option open right now. I reckon that is probably at least 1500 nights revenue a year in my control.

It's a bad time to only have SPG/MR status really, luckily I have other options.

Ok - I think this years nights will count towards you making the 750 in the legacy requirements because they will combine those on August 1. So do you have 650 MR nights as of 12/31/17. In which case if you can get 100 nights this year then that would qualify you for LTP under the MR legacy requirements before the end of the year and since you're already above 750 combined nights you'd have the requirement for LTPP before 12/31/18.

No. Since the qualifying period ends at the end of this year, I was referring to expected totals on 12/31/18. If it appears that I won't qualify for LTPP, this year's Marriott nights will decline significantly.

Well done to all those that made this reconsideration possible ^ Thank You
It seems the answer has already been addressed in the above posts
From the website

NOTE: Members that reach 750 nights and 10 years at Platinum by December 31, 2018 will be grandfathered into Lifetime Platinum Premier Elite status (notified January 2019).
In addition, members that achieve Marriott Rewards Lifetime Platinum under the legacy requirements by year end will also be grandfathered into Lifetime Platinum Premier Elite status.
And, don’t forget that we’ll combine Lifetime activity across both Rewards and SPG toward qualification when members combine accounts in August.
Beginning in 2019, qualification into Lifetime Platinum Premier Elite status will not be available. See FAQs for details.

My understanding from one of the higher up executives @ Marriott that this will be the case effective in Aug and official notification going out in 2019
The verbiage online is somewhat poor IMHO and I am going to say my assessment is correct.
After calling both Marriott Rewards and SPG on a number of calls not a single agent at the elite desks or Marriott Rewards could answer if
I was going to become a Marriott Platinum Premier Lifetime Member based on lifetime nights from both programs once merged
Received many different answers to the same question
Interesting to note
Marriott Corporate didn't even respond to my written email inquiry to say they were researching.and would get back to me
However based on the above posts and my own research yesterday and today I am quite please to be one of those grandfathered in ^

Thank you to all on FT for the clarifications. Before this I had SPG LTP 525 Nights and 10 years Platinum. I had MR lifetime Gold and 650 nights with 1.94 Million points. Thought it was going to be awful stressful to accumulate 100 nights and 60K points by either 8/1 or 12/31/18 to hit LTPP. While I do not post nearly as much as in years past this is still the best source of information for clarification on questions. Thank you to all who post and the FT community.

This is certainly getting interesting. So, as a current SPG LTP --- if I have 660 SPG lifetime nights up-to-date and 50 MR lifetime nights, I only need to add 40 nights at either a Marriott or SPG before 12/31 to qualify as a LTPP? Really? If that's the case, it looks a bit more plausible in my scenario.

I assume you will get nicer treatment after this merger. Because SPG hotels tend to upgrade to suites until it lasts. But Marriott, IME, offered upsell for standard suite to platinum or gold member on the day of arrival.. how absurd.

Try SPG branded property after the merger!

I'm even more confused than I was a couple of days ago. (And it is probably showing in my typing.) A couple of days ago I was just annoyed and disappointed.

Has it been confirmed that 750 nights combined between the two programs and 10 years of Platinum combined between the two programs gets you LTPP at this point?

I have 850 Marriott nights, only about 1.5 million Marriott points, and should have 4 years Marriott platinum after 2018
I have 590 (will be 600 by 7/1) spg nights, all the years SPG platinum (19? since Starwood bought Westin), and 626,821 lifetime SPG points according to my master statement

What boat am I in, come 2019?

A11. Will those who meet either the 75 or 100 night criteria in 2018 still be eligible for the Your24 & Ambassador benefit, respectively, for the remainder of 2018 and for the 2019 year even if they don't achieve the new $20K spend requirement? If so, what is the deadline for meeting these criteria - August 1 or December 31?
Thanks, I missed that answer. And in the meantime had the same answer by 'phone from SPG. While I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, it does seem odd to withdraw a benefit , earned and paid for up to a year earlier, half way through the year.

For those that need extra nights beyond their current planned stays, I wonder what the breakdown is for those chasing them through SPG vs. MR? I know I'll be signing up for the 100K MR CC and booking a some meetings to push myself over the threshold.

Much easier/cheaper to chase them through MR as has been noted elsewhere...SPG, you have to actually stay the nights...MR, you can manufacture your way there (as I will be doing for ~40 or so nights).

I might be a bit dense on this, but is it actually possible to qualify as Platinum in both SPG and Marriott for 2018 if I'm doing to be one year short? If my accountsacco currently linked and then merged in August how do they know what nights are attributed to which program? Or is 2017 the last year you could qualify as Platinum for both?
