No, Free Night Award and Cash & Points bookings do not qualify for promotional offers such as these.

Thanks to OP! I logged in and checked.
I got a "new member exclusive offer". 1 free night after 1 eligible paid rate stay, and a second free night after a second paid rate stay. Cat. 1-5 redemption for the free nights.
For this promo, am i safe in assuming that 1 weekend stay ( 2 nights, same property, same reservation ) is only 1 stay? Or will two qualified stays need to be two separate, non sequential reservations?

I got double elite qualifying! ^
-----
Let’s keep a good thing going
ELITE STATUS — ON THE DOUBLE.
We want to ensure that you keep enjoying elite benefits, including Free Night Awards, Award Flights, late checkouts, welcome gifts, and more. So we’re bringing you a special offer to help you renew your SPG® elite status twice as fast.
It’s simple: Register by June 1, 2016, and you’ll earn double elite-qualifying credit on all your stays between April 1, 2016, and June 30, 2016 — with no earning limits. For example, if you have five eligible stays and 10 eligible nights during the promotion, SPG will credit you 10 stays and 20 nights toward elite status.
-----
According to the T&C:
The bonus elite qualifying nights that post to the member's account as result of the offer will not count toward SPG Lifetime™ status nights requirements. Members upgraded to elite status solely as a result of the bonus elite qualifying stays or nights posted will not have a year of elite status count toward SPG Lifetime qualification, unless the member achieves the typical required stays and nights needed for elite status.

However I am unsure of the worthiness of Platinum status going forward(after the merger) and unfortunately this promo runs concurrent with the Hyatt promo.

I didn't get anything either (Platinum 75 and over 20 nights this year so far). Last year, I think I had 1 11 or 12 day stay in January and got offered 2 nights after 4 stays. So, I guess life is fair after all

Two consecutive nights = 1 stay.
You need to break it up if at the same hotel or you can move to another hotel the next night.

Nothing for me. I'm at 19 stays and 36 nights. And in the midst of another stay with 3 nights.
This annoys the F out of me that they don't provide these to all elite members. Why some and not others.

Too many loyal members???
Another "Unfortunately, you're not eligible for this promotion."
Can someone from Corporate Marketing explains to me the rationale to create a promotion like this to piss off long-term loyal clients, in the hope of luring some opportunistic new customers??? I would be very worried, if I were Marriott shareholders (it's like SPG is pressing the "self-destruct" button before the deal closes).
Too bad I missed the Hyatt status-match season, but now I will definitely proceed to the new Hilton status match!!
Statistics if of interest: Plat100, 7 stays and 18 nights YTD.

Received 5 stay = 5000 points.
Data points, zero stays YTD compared to 32D/68N in 2015...and yes I was very upset with the merger & currently enjoying my life outside of SPG whichever is convenient for my purpose. I dont really have the urge to kickstart an early stay like last year & wasted some flight tickets just to stay in an SPG property.

But for promotions like this, it seems to me that their purpose is not to reward the most loyal customers. There are other reward opportunities for us. The purpose of promotions like this is to increase the number of most loyal customers (say, PLT 100s) by enticing others to join our ranks.

Yes, exactly. SPG is using this type of promo to gain the loyalty of those who are not currently as loyal as you are. There will be something else and different for you. Sort of like when car manufacturers offer promotions to first-time buyers.

For those of you that got the free nights from the previous December-march promo. Were any of you able to extend the reservation beyond the expiration date? For Example I had stay 2 get 2 free nights by 3/31 and free nights expire by 6/31 but I want to book 2 rooms for a trip that changed from 6/20 to 8/21. Has anyone had success?

I thought William gave a very good explanation in post #91 and as a loyal member, I maxed out on the 10K point promo a week ago. You should be able to as well.
