Question
For stays over the New Year, checking-in in December and checking-out in January, how are the stay credits and night credits accounted for ?

Answer
The stay credit goes to whichever year your stay began.
The night credits belong to whichever year each individual night begins.

Examples
Check in 30 Dec 2017, check out 1 Jan 2018 :
1 stay credit for 2017.
2 night credits for 2017.

Check in 31 Dec 2017, check out 2 Jan 2018 :
1 stay credit for 2017.
1 night credit for 2017 & 1 night credit for 2018.

Odd, this had come up a few days ago. I had assumed it was combined into this thread, but it seems to have disappeared.

Just to re-confirm my understanding, for a 5 night stay from 28 Dec 2012 to 02 Jan 2013, one gets:

- a stay credit for 2012 tally
- 4 nights credit for 2012
- 1 night credit for 2013

Is this correct?

Dec 31st stay: 2012 or 2013?

I'm doing a one-night stay on NYE Dec 31st which will be my 25th stay needed to keep platinum for this year. Does anyone know if it will count for 2012 and keep my platinum, or will it be a stay for 2013 since it ends on the 1st?

You are checking into the hotel in 2012, so that's where I would say the stay belongs.

Funny, I've had the same question a few hours ago and the answer I've found on Flyertalk is, that the stay and night definitly counts to the year when you check-in; in this case to 2012!

So if you check in on December 31 and check out on January 2, you get one stay and two nights for 2012? In particular, even if someone didn't have any other credits for 2012, they could check in on NYE, check out at the end of February, and earn Plat with 10 SNAs?

This is still as fresh as the day it was written, over 10 years ago.

Not for 2012.

Cheers,

Cheers,
That's what I though, so the post I quoted was incorrect. However, then in my example we would have someone earning Plat during 2013 (so the status lasts an extra year) with over 50 nights and NO stays.

How do you get 2 nights in one year and 2 nights in the next for a 3 night stay?

OP's situation - stay is in 2012. Night is also in 2012?

You are checking in during 2012, so it counts in 2012.

The night you are staying is in 2012, so it counts in 2012.

The morning you are checking out has no bearing.

If you were to stay an additional night and check out on January 2 then you would have one night counting in 2013 and no stays counting for 2013.

This is what I always understood, the Stay credit goes according to when you checked in (2012) and the Night/s credit goes accordingly to when you stayed, so In on 12/31 out on 1/1 everything is 2012, In on 12/31 and out 1/? then 1 Stay for 2012, 1 Night for 2012 and x nights for 2013 depending what date your checkout is, but 0 Stays fo 2013 since you never checked in yet in 2013

So a person who is earning their Status based on # of nights and say is 3 short and checks in on 12/31 and out on 1/2 , will end up being 2 nights short in 2012 to qualify,I believe since theyw ill earn only 1 night for 2012 and 2 for 2013.

But Im sure a call to SPG may get them bumped up in the end

If you follow the rest of the thread, this gets sorted out.
