FAQ: Night & Stay credits for New Year Stays (check-in in Dec, check-out in Jan)

Hi William,
I plan a stay from Dec 30th to Jan 2nd.
Will the nights account to Plat status in 2002 or 2003? Same with the stay?
Thanks in advance.

Good question, Sylvest941.

The stay credit goes to whichever year your stay began. In this case, it would be 2002, so it counts toward 2002.

The night credits belong to whichever year they are in. In this scenario, the 2 nights in December would be credited to 2002 and the two nights in January would be credited to 2003.

well, i am glad you asked that question because i thought the stay was credited in the year it ENDED. this is very helpful.

just like i always say: "you learn something new from flyertalk.com every day."

now, if i could just figure out how to pull an "UpgradeMe" (i.e., put a flyertalk link inside of my threads), that would be a neat trick. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Credit for stays over new year

I am staying at a *wood hotel from December 25th - January 4th.
Will I get credit for a stay in 2003 and 2004?

year end stay, credit to which year?

I will be making my 25th stay at a property to renew my Plat membership. But if I check in on Dec 29 and out on Jan 1, will I get the credit for 03 or 04, or better yet for both?

Somewhere I remember reading the posting goes on your checkout date, so it would appear i would not get my 25th stay afterall for 03. Is this correct? Could I do the often frowned up trick of checking out on Dec 31, then checking back in, in order to get 03 status. Or is Lurker simply going to be good guy and give it to me?

AA_SPG_Fan Dec 28, 2003 11:59 am

Post would go to 2003.

100,000miler Dec 28, 2003 12:21 pm

Ahhh, thanks, I would get 2 stays, one in 03, and one in 04! A deal.

AA_SPG_Fan Dec 28, 2003 3:39 pm

No. You only get 1 stay added for 2003. Happened to me last year and all the above threads say the same thing -- unless something changed somewhere.

That is not what Lurker says in his letter unless I am misreading it, see the first link above and follow it. Example is you check in on Dec 31, out on Jan 4, you would get one nights credit for 03, and one stay credit for the 3 nights in 04.

A stay and a night are different animals

The stay credit goes to 2003 only. The nights within the stay that fall in 2003 will be credited to 2003 and the nights that fall in 2004 will be credited to 2004.

SPG Policy Question, Dec 31- Jan 2

Say one stays at a SPG property on Dec 31 but checks out either on Jan 1 or Jan 2, will any of these credits be applied against 2005?

William, could you comment on this? And give us some advise?

Sure. This is asked every year about this time. ;)

The stay will count for 2004. The first night of the stay will also count for 2004. The rest of the nights will count for 2005.

So, a stay that begins on the cusp of the New Year counts for the year in which it began, but the nights count for the year in which they fall.

So does that mean I will get a credit towards my 2005 Elite status?

In this scenario, no stay credit for 2005, but two nights credit for 2005.
