Starwood Lurker-- As we discussed, I stayed at the Sheration Atlanta Galleria Suites last weekend. They told me that even though upgrade rooms were available, they wouldn't upgrade me because it was a Priceline rate. Let me know if there's anything you can do -- like telling them that's wrong policy.

I too would like your information on Starwood letterhead. While I don't want to 'argue' with the front desk, if they still refuse after showing them your letter, at least it gives me some legitimacy with them.

I suggest printing out this thread and if the hotel representative has a question, they can send me an e-mail for clarification. I can assure you that the next person they hear from will probably not be me, but their individual hotel coordinator calling to clarify the position of Starwood Preferred Guest on this matter.

pitflyer, this has already taken place regarding the Sheraton Suites Galleria - Atlanta. They are now aware of the policy.

Best regards,

Thanks William! I will print out your note above and see what happens next time. I think Starwood's policy on these reservations is most progressive I've seen in regards to Priceline with major hotel chains, other than Wyndham (which gives _full_ benefits to all reservations, including Priceline).

Wanted to add a note is that I've been trying to get Marriott to give me a similar letter (or tell me no) for months now -- I went as far as sending them a registered letter to their corporate office asking for clarification. No reply. This settles it -- from now on I'm booking all my business trips (those I won't use Priceline on) on Starwood hotels. William you can tell your boss your hard work has won another convert.

One last question... do Priceline stays at hotels count towards the 'stay/nights' count? I of course don't expect any points for the room rate, but do they count towards elite qualification, or is that completely up to the hotel? (Not to be greedy; just want to know what's the policy either way)

I stayed at the W in downtown San Francisco this past weekend for the unbelievable rate of $65/night from Priceline and upon presenting my SPG Gold card was upgraded to a 29th floor corner king room. I was not made in any way to feel that I was less important than the rest of the guests who were paying $300+.

Nope. Or so the story goes.....

Seriously, I never have, but sometimes, allegedly, the good will or ignorance of a hotel employee will result in stay or night credit, or so I have been told. If you get it, it's a nice suprise.

I just wrote a Trip Report about my recent Priceline stay and my treatment as a SPG Platinum member.

Pretty incredible.

That is why Starwood is better than hilton. i had 160,000 hilton points and to get 5 days I needed to book 6 months in advance. i have less starpoints but a phone call 5 min b4 checking does the trick

please see my stay report about my $41 Priceline stay (the hotel is pretty busy, too) at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers. It will make you jealous, and hopeful for what your next priceline stay will bring.

WOW! I have yet to receive such a nice upgrade as that. Don't you just come away with the greatest feeling knowing that you paid soooo little, but got soooo much.

Yep!

I can only hope my non-Priceline stay in Cleveland tomorrow works out somewhat nearly as well.

I'm at the Sheraton LAX Gateway right now on a $31 Priceline stay.

I called the front desk yesterday to ask that my Starwood Gold number be added to my record (as I usually do on Priceline stays). The agent knew her stuff. She said she would be glad to and mentioned I'd be entitled to all ammenities and also points for incidentals. She reminded me of no points on the base room stay.

She also noted my request for non-smoking and early check-in. Something that Priceline Run-of-House rules do not permit.

When I arrived, I found I was preassigned an upgraded Suite on the 14th floor!

Sounds like you were assisted by the type of knowledgeable, friendly and efficient service worker (hotel, airline, fast food, consulting, whatever industry) that we all dream of.

I thought Priceline's policy was that all rooms are non-smoking?
