Mastercard or Visa??
A little update on the Starwood credit cards. I check with Starwood periodically to check on the progress of a mastercard or visa and was told today that they are working with a bank on getting a visa. The rep had no other information. I asked what bank and was told she had no idea. I will keep you posted.

This could be good or bad news. The AMEX card will be tough to top - it's free and effectively yields 1.25 miles/dollar with all of Starwood's airline partners. Plus AMEX let's you pay on-line. Many of the VISA and Mastercards still don't have that feature. A free VISA/Mastercard with the same earning potential as the AMEX card and on-line payment capability would be a plus, anything else will need to be examined more closely.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the 1.25 points has nothing to do with the charge card. This conversion is a feature of the Starwood program not the credit card that is affiliated with them.

Yes, yes, birdyy is correct, it is part of the Starwood program not the credit card.

I would gladly take this card, what other MC/Visa card allows you to earn miles on more than one airline? No fee would be an added bonus ...

I'd take this card only if it had no annual fee. The Optima is no fee and there are other Visa cards with no fee which give rewards (e.g. with the no fee Freeride Visa one can get Marriott/Hyatt certificates).

You don't get 1.25 miles/dollar on the credit card. The 25% bonus(25000 miles for 20000 points) is only for points earned on hotel fees.

Boomer, I do believe that what you were told was incorrect. If you read through the Starwood program terms and conditions, the bonus miles are available on all points earned with either Starwood or the "program earning partners". This includes the credit card, Avis, AT&T, and a few others. It does not include things like AMEX MR and transfers of points/miles into the Starwood program.

That was also my understanding. Can anyone verify this?
