This promo is worth approx. 10000 extra points after 20 nights.
The current Marriott one I was offered is 35000 after 25 nights.
About the same - works out to approx. double the base points.

I am just glad the SPG one starts Jan 5 (Marriott starts Feb)
Therefore, I'm not complaining. I will hit the 20 nights by the time the Marriott one kicks in, but this promo still gives double points after the 20 nights 4000 point bonus is achieved and I would rather get double SPG points than double Marriott.

Don't know if any other chain is offering anything better.

Assuming it stays basically as it is, it could be anywhere from 4,000 extra points (all one-night stays) to 50,000+ depending on how much you pay for your rooms.

Only 1K/5 nights is capped at 4K. Double points per stay is unlimited.

Could be zero, depending on how long the list of non-participating properties is.

The length of the list is irrelevant. It could be one property long and yield zero points, while it could be every property except one and yield lots of points.

But yes, I did neglect to take the non-participating property list into account.

More free points, so I'll take it. But once again, they cap the bonus (20 nights)??!? Really? I will hit 20 nights in Jan. Why the cap Starwood? All it does is make sure I continue to book with my backup chains, IHG, Hilton and others. Even a small uncapped bonus would stop me (and likely others) from doing that. Even in good times, this seems like a silly thing to do.

At least I do love the Jan 5 start date. That's nice.

If this non-participating list remains fairly stable, it is not the worst one I have seen recently. ^

Just the bonus 1,000 points for every five nights is capped. The double points for stays of two nights or more doesn't seem to be capped. Unless one stays on extremely cheap rates or has mostly one night stands at Starwoods, the double points part will yield more points.

Great....my first stay, for four nights, is at a nonparticipating property and I need to stay in that particular hotel.

The 10000 figure assumed a reasonable $150/night average.
Not many travel policies allow $1000/night

Reasonable for you isn't necessarily reasonable for everyone. Some people actually stay in Luxury Collection and St. Regis properties, Category 7 resorts, and hotels in major cities.

Not everyone travels on business. Not everyone books the cheapest rooms. Some people even book suites and/or travel with families!

Not overly impressed as there was no re qualification gift this year which I thought was a bit of a bummer.
