I always assumed that the only reason a guest was allowed to avoid the desk at check out was that the desk had already run the guest's credit card at check in. Keyless Check-in would alter the circumstances.

Just my humble opinion, but probably not, unless you didn't use a credit card to guarantee your reservation. However, I'm sure that if the credit card used for that purpose comes into question, you will probably get a push notification to drop by the front desk.

after seeing the video i assumed that the system used NFC. then i saw that many people in the video were using iPhones so that would be impossible (Apple doesn't allow the NFC to be used for anything but apple pay in the typical apple walled garden philosophy.)
now that i've read that it works via bluetooth, i'm wondering why one would have to hold the phone up to the door. bluetooth has a range of about 10m.
my second question is that since it uses bluetooth, why is it restricted to such a small number of phones?

It doesn't like my LG F3Q either, but we don't stay in any of the participating brands (and I don't trust the security surrounding the technology anyway), so it's not really an issue.

It will be interesting to see how the hotels deal with guests walking in with suitcases and simply walking past the front desks to the elevators, especially in the beginning.

Me too. Somehow, the Samsung Galaxy S5, one of the most popular devices in the world, does not work with this.

Go figure.

Does anyone know how secure this new system is? Since its so new I would be slightly concerned that this blue tooth system can be hacked?

Where do you even see the icon to register? I've an iPhone 5S running iOS 8.1 and the latest SPG app. I don't see anything about keyless registration.

If you can view the video linked in post #2, it explains the additional security protocols that are used over and above Bluetooth.

+1 here. using a 5s here and forced an update to the app to 5.3 - no Keyless box as the video states.

At the "home screen" of the app, below Upcoming Stays and Account Activity.
