I have stayed at both Westin at the Domain and Aloft at the domain. I like Aloft better than Westin without any prejudice to their participation in the promotion for the following reasons:
1. The Aloft staff are very courteous and display genuine interest in their work
2. Being a small hotel means more personal attention

This is my personal opinion. Others may have different opinions.
So, if both Aloft and Westin participate in a promo, my pesonal preference would be to stay at Aloft at the Domain.

Ah, I see. Don't you earn fewer points at Aloft though? Like for MAGC and platinum amenity. Of course, it's not all about the points.

Yes, I do earn fewer points but only because the Aloft room rates are lower than those of Westin. I am ok with earning lesser number of points when the service is better. All other point accruals are same. I get 500 points for Platinum Amenity in Aloft as well.
The free breakfast in Aloft allows me to pick up anything I want from their snack store. On the other hand, the breakfast coupon in Westin only gives me 1 coffee + 1 pastry.

Just as an FYI, officially, the choice should be for 250 Starpoints. Are they adding another 250 at this location, for some reason?

On the other hand, the breakfast coupon in Westin only gives me 1 coffee + 1 pastry.
That sounds a tad light, IMHO. Can you send me the details? I'd like to have the SPG Hotel Coordinators follow up on that.

I went back and checked my point accruals. You are correct. I earned only 250 points at Aloft. My bad... but I still prefer Aloft

The breakfast coupon I got in Westin is in addition to the 500 points Platinum Amenity. The coupon is for Urban Grill. It says the following on the coupon "This coupon is valid only on the date below for 1 grand coffee and 1 pastry".

I am not really sure if Breakfast option is in addition to 500 points or it is either /Or.

Thanks. That would explain it, then. It is supposed to be either/or, so if you get the breakfast coupon in addition to 500 Starpoints at the Westin, then they are actually going above and beyond.

Thanks for the clarification Williams. In that case, please do send my kudos to the team at Westin Domain.
Unlike many FT members, I sometimes don't pay attention and stay misinformed.

I stayed at the Westin this past summer for two consecutive weeks (5 and 6 day stays) and I thought they provided the expected level of service. The bar and restaurant staff were great, the checkin staff were fine and they even have friendly greeters at the door during peak checkin and checkout times.
What kind of 'personal attention' do you really need beyond that?
There is nothing I can think of that would get me to sacrifice 250 points per night (Plat welcome and Green Choice).
I didn't have to but I would even tolerate grumpy and rude staff for the extra 1750 points I got during my stays.

i've stayed at both too. I prefer the Westin. My one and only stay at the Aloft (a single night) was marred by the fact that i could not get any sleep due to the noise from the hall coming into my room. When I checked out, they told me they had a known problem with the gap at the bottom of the doors. Sounded like they were planning on fixing it. That was more than a year ago. Anyone know if they did?

Can we please get the thread back on topic? There are threads for discussing the two properties.

Totally not a worthwhile promotion the promotions have been getting worse and worse this year and totally not made for the business traveler! Loyalty means nothing anymore to Starwood. Each day I question why I stay!

triple points not credited

i just came back from a trip in Mumbai, India, where I stayed in the Westin. I got double points posted, but not triple, although my stay included a Friday night.
just checked the folia, and although i checked out on the 20th and paid 6 nights, it says 14th -19th. disappointing. now i will need to call, email, etc to have it sorted out.

on the other hand I really liked the hotel

My apologies for the inconvenience, but Program Services should be able to sort this out for you. Just send the folio(s) to [email protected] as an attachment and allow up to 10 days. Once the correction is made, the bonus points will follow on a subsequent sweep.
