My Lastpass password is 344,000 years. Safe enough for me
How does one know for sure www.howsecureismypassword.net is legit? By supplying passwords, maybe we're setting ourselves up to be taken by the "bad guys"...

Cheers,

If you entered your password (for any secure service) into a “check my password” site, you need to change it right away.

For those of you on Twitter, there is http://www.ismytwitterpasswordsecure.com

Jut found out that my adobe account had been compromised via this site... http://haveib**npwned.com/

I got an email from Adobe several weeks ago indicating there had been a breach and asking me to click through the email and reset my password! You should NEVER click through any email like that. Instead, I went to their site directly, got their contact phone number and called them. Adobe confirmed it was legitimate, and that I should change my password, which I did. I also changed every other password I had on any other site just to be safe. :-)

Sometimes the sending address on these phishing emails is spoofed and the email appears to be legitimate when it isn't. When in doubt, just do the old fashioned thing and pick up the phone. Most of the time when I do that, the alleged "sender" tells me it is a scam and it is a good thing I called.

Lately I have been getting robocalls on my cell phone pretending to be Verizon directing me to go to a website with a similar sounding address and "log in with my Verizon credentials" for a discount on my bill. Yeah, right. A quick google on the caller ID number revealed it was a scam. But I wonder how many victims they got?

Be careful out there, folks.

Just wonder... I remember when I talked to SPG agent, they asked for my password..... which I kind of wonder why they asked for it. I thought I am not suppose to share my password?

They are referring to a verification/authentication password, not your login password. You can set it up under "My Profile" when you login to SPG. They refer to it as "verbal password".

The agent will ask for a password that belongs to the SPG account and this will take place especially for any award redemption request.

Also, SPG account does not refer to your online account over the phone, though I can see why it is easy for one to assume they mean the same thing. Still, our associates aren't suppose to ask for your online login details over the phone.

Even though I don't take calls, I understand that any requests to change account details over the phone would require your account password as well.

Cheers,
Don't give them your actual password, of course. Change some characters to others of the same type. If your pw is asdf234%, give them asjk654$. The strength should be reported the same, but you haven't given them anything too useful.

I haven't heard back from Starwood at all regarding my points. I called in on Monday about it, so hopefully it will happen soon. To answer the question above, my log-in password was the same as my verbal.
