if your going outside spg why not just ask whats the best hotel ?!
im staying for 2 days in January . Altho i usually stay SPG/IHG none of those hotels appeal. Not many places you can get a Ritz or MO for $150 USD a night so I may go for something like this - probably MO.

haha sorry to sidetrack...I ask because they are just next door to each other..
But I will probably go for the westin. Hopefully they recognise SPG Gold.

Going off what you state above I would go for the Westin, then Sheraton then Le Meridien last. I say this as someone who has stayed at the LM the most, including half a dozen times in the last six months.

It depends on who is certifying

The former Sheraton Penang had a 5 star plaque displayed in it's lobby, the award was given by the Malaysian Tourism Ministry. I wouldn't rate it more than 3 star though.

Irrespective of whether the Westin is 4 or 5 star, it is still one of the best hotel in the city if you consider the location, comfort etc etc

I would suggest Westin in Kuala Lumpur

I would definitely say Westin hotell, centraly and within walking distance to most things.

Verry good service.

Thanks everyone for your input. I forgot I even asked for advice from this SPG Forum. I am leaning towards the Westin but as a Gold Member, it doesn't seem like breakfast will be complimentary. Any breakfast food close by?

Does the Sheraton include complimentary breakfast for Gold Members?

I stayed on both Sheraton and Westin early Jan. Location wise Westin is better as it is in the heart of Bukit Bintang also it is newer property. Not saying Sheraton is bad/

If money is not an issue, go for Westin

If staying weekend, then 3000 a night for the Sheraton IMHO is exceptional value. If not C and P at Westin,

OP helps if you mention rate you are looking to pay or award and status.

Westin is 2800 pts plus $45 plus 16% total tax for 5 nights.

Sheraton Imperial is 3000 pts per night. Not cash and points. $88 per night if I don't use points.

This will be for February 2013

Which is the best value?

I have Gold so I guess no free breakfast in any of the hotels.

In all my 12 years as SPG Gold & Platinum member, I have never stayed in a SPG hotel which provides free breakfast for Golds. And until recently, many hotels do not even provide free breakfast for Platinums.

There are various places you can have breakfast nearby to both hotels; the Sheraton Imperial is close to some local eateries, while the area around the Westin has a wider selection of restaurants, cafes and food courts.

The Sheraton is easily the better value.
