i reached out to my ambassador & it turns out that there are select standard suites available during my stay & the property claims that there is a technical glitch which is not allowing the suite nights to go through....they are still looking into this so hopefully i should be able to use them here....

consolation prize

5 nights returned from a FAIL at LM Split -> just cleared a 3 night stay at the SGS BKK. Not normally needed there, but since less inventory due to renovations, and already failing on 2 diff vacations this year (8 returned to me), as others have said have to try and burn them somehow.

Oh well, it just a mater of a few more days before I'm within that 5 day window and hopefully the suite sticks and they return the SNA. Nothing wrong with being optimistic right? LOL
You might want to save your SNA and hope that the upgrade you've already got sticks. If you've been upgraded already to a better suite that the SNA room categories allow, keeping the SNA request could result in a downgrade. However, no one really knows in this case what using the SNA will do for you.

Today I have made a reservation at a Westin for the end of the year. Check out 01.01.2014. Because I couldn't add the five SNAs directly I called the platinum line. Even they couldn't add them. May be because my SNAs will expire at 31.12.2013. One of the supervisors will try to fix it. We will see...

I thought the SNAs are good until last day of the year...

Since I posted my mediocre experience above, I feel I need to add the "as it's supposed to work" experience at the Maui Sheraton. SNA upgrade confirmed 5 days in advance, and no issues checking in.

The only SNA ever failed for me was for a weekend booking at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre. Other than that, I have been successful in applying SNA worldwide. I usually just select the largest suite available at the time of making my booking with SNA.

I know right! I'm closely monitoring the situation as my day five point is midweek.

I've also watched as the master and luxury one bedroom squires have been pulled from the website this weekend and now the 2-3 and even a 4 bedroom suites have now become available. But there hasn't been any changes to my reservation to reflect otherwise. I'm still "booked" the "lowest" (master) suite with my two SNA still pending.

I think I just might keep the upgrade request in there just for safety sake. But if it turned out that the pre-reserved my upgrade, this might explain, to some degree, why others are not getting upgraded perhaps.

Otherwise, what's the point? They want to hold out until then end and try to upsell someone. I understand they want to make moment and maybe they will over the upsell to me but wanted to secure me in a suite in advance. Who knows!

I'll report back once I've checked in.

Stay tuned!

Lurkers - any answer or insights??

I finally found the answer to my question. There is a modest incentive to the hotels, on the order of $5 - $10, each SNA, and unlikely more than $20. This is based on my booking of a suite at a resort hotel, which has several types of 1 BR suites with size varying by 100 - 200 Sq.ft. After I booked the smallest suite, I was surprised to see invitation for me to apply a SNA. So I clicked the button. The next page shows that my current reservation is a 650 sq.ft 1BR suite, the option for upgrade is a 760 sq.ft (another sentence says 900 sq.ft, do not know why) 1 BR suite. The "price" for upgrade is TWO (!) SNAs. So the SNA must be worth something > 99 cents, otherwise why the resort wants two of them? The room rates offered at time of reservation differ by $40, that led to of my guess.

Two SNAs per night may be because of it is a suite only property or something like this...

BTW: I think your guess is wrong.

Which resort is this? Is it the Westin at Napa?

I see. I didn't know resorts require two SNAs. Thanks.

I experienced "technical glitches" as well. Both times the front desk gave me a complimentary upgrade anyway and returned the SNAs back to me. I offered to have them subtracted because I felt in the end, they did honor the upgrade. Both times they declined and told me to enjoy the room. ^

I think the SNA is a decent idea but the logic behind assigning upgrades needs some work. Once the bugs are fixed, it should work as intended. I think the refresh cycle should be every 3 hours for instance instead of daily once you get within the 5-day period before your stay. I don't think it does that right now and there is a period of "limbo" where suites are available but assignment does not occur.

The other issue is how to accurately get room availability to sync from the hotel's inventory to SPG.com. I know that has been discussed and is a hard task.

Oh well...keep trying

Is this true? I hadn't heard of this rule.

They don't; and, the property cannot take two SNA's for a better suite, so could you name which property this is so we can follow up with them?
