Sometimes it's better to not know that to know and be disappointed.

You must be confusing this with Marriott's "no balckout" farce. FRN's are available anytime a standard room/regular award is available. As William pointed out, there is no such thing as an "FRN availability" vs. "award availability" vs. "standard paid room availability". If it's there, it can be redeemed for any of them As always.

I have been unable to find standard rooms for any weekend the rest of the year. Makes me think this is either quite a popular weekend destination or that the St Regis Bahia Beach doesnt have a lot of standard rooms. Either way, very disappointing as I was hoping to get some use out of the free resort promo.

Probably both. And with a promo that is only usable at resorts, you have to expect that tons of other people had the same idea as you. In this case, the early bird gets the room.

My apologies for the disappointment, but this is a very popular resort. That being said, as far as the number of standard rooms available, you'd stand a better chance here than at other known quantities.

I had same problems at st.Regis sanya yalong bay china! Opening on 11Nov and room available for sell but when I talked with spg platinum service and they said the date that I choose is not available for redeem free night...and I asked them about available date from 11Nov to 21Dec and they said sorry that unavailable to redeem free night!! Just wonder why did they put this hotel on the list! And I made free night for use at this resort!!

If you were able to book a standard award room using Starpoints, you should have been able to book an FRN award as well. My apologies, but if this is the case, I would call back and ask a supervisor to look into it.

I realize it won't make the OP feel any better, but I used FRNs for the St Regis Bahia Beach for the same weekend he's looking at. I made my reservation about a week ago.

So yes, some are available.

I think he means he worked to get the FRN to use at this resort, but no standard rooms (and hence no award rooms) are available, so he can't use it as intended.

Hence the qualifying "if...".

Bad Promo

This is just a bad promo.
Either give me points or let me use my certs for any room.
Why even have a pormo that most of us can not use.
Just my 2 cents.
I will give you back the certs and just credit my account with
10k points per cert.
At least I can use the points when I want.

This is not a bad promo at all. Even if with points, blackout dates and capacity contro would still apply to premium rooms - which is totally resasonalble. You can't use points whenever or wherever you want no matter in which hotel chains. Actually SPG was the first to offer the no blackout date for standard rooms in the industry.

I'd say you're part of a very small minority.

Fairly sweeping generalization, which certainly doesn't speak for my own experience. I have had no problems whatsoever booking 6 FRNs at my first choice of properties, on the exact dates I want.

This pomo saved me at least $2000 I would have had to otherwise spend on our family vacation this fall.

Cheers,
