A number of posts which addressed topics way away from the topic of this thread (difficulties encountered in the administration of the SPG Make a Green Choice program) have been edited and/or deleted.

Another update about the "make a green choice" points that were never posted for my stay at the Westin Long Beach. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I had two email exchanges with the hotel and I was also in contact with Starwood via chat. The latest contact was a voice mail from the hotel (after escalation by Starwood) on Jan 21, promising me that the points would be credited to my account in the next 10 days. As of Feb 4, still nothing. I have sent a message to Starwood lurker on this thread, which apparently did not come through, so now I sent it as an email.

I don't think the Aloft Silicon Valley understands how the program works. They asked me at check-in if I wanted to make a green choice and I said that I would but I would choose the days I did it using the door hanger. I figured I might do the green choice on alternate nights on a 4 night stay if I kept the room reasonably clean on those alternate days.

I hung the door tag out the first night, all is well. $5 voucher/thank you card left under the door at some point during the night. They did not clean the room that day.

I did not hang it outside the 2nd night yet my room was untouched, still unclean when I returned that evening. There was no $5 voucher left that morning.

I asked the front desk people about it and was told that they put me in for 2 nights, alternating, but they shouldn't have put me in for any nights until 2AM when they checked for the door hanger.

FDC offered 250 bonus points for not cleaning my room, but now I am in a dirty room, towels on the floor, carpets not vacuumed, sheets not changed (tag was left on the bed), and what did I get for their mistake? the 250 points for not cleaning the room.

This is a stupid program in my opinion if they can't get it right. It's the guest's choice as to which nights they make the choice. We don't have to decide which nights we want to make the choice at check-in before we know how clean or dirty we've made the room, do we? It's supposed to be a flexible choice, isn't it?

I was not offered green choice while I stayed at Sheraton (FLL) with single day back to back reservation.
Was offered green choice at Aloft Cancun for two nights stay and took it. ^

Couple of weekend's ago I stayed with my family at Sheraton in Burlington, VT for 2 nights. I opted for green choice for both the nights. I was only awarded green choice SPG points for one night. When I sent email about that, this is the response i got

" The housekeepers clean after you depart regardless, so the only eligible night would be the one in between your check in and departure day."

I am really surprised at the response.

For those who opt for green choice, do you get the points for the number of nights you stay or between check-in & departure day?

What you got is correct. If you're staying for 2 nights, you are only entitled to one housekeeping service, hence the one 500 points received.

I have had difficulties with multiple yet continuous stays posting. Usually though they sort it out in the end. I am going to have to alternate a bit when on a trip for over 2 weeks this August though... Not looking forward to it.

So the hotel that i visit every month is giving me SPG points on the basis of the nights i stayed is being generous to me!

It seems to me that this is based on individual hotel policies. This really does not make any sense.

Very much so.

With this logic, what would you be expecting for a 1 night stay ?

Wow, I'd hate to get your room on the day you check out since by your logic the room wouldn't be cleaned so you can get bonus points!

Haha i was thinking the same thing when i read OP's post! Maybe the 'poo on sheet' thread was a consequence of a guest demanding 500 MGC points even on his day of check-out, hence the sheets not being replaced :P

Actually, yours is the first instance I have ever heard of someone expecting Green Points for the morning of checkout day. You seriously think you can waive housekeeping for the next guest?

Cheers,

I have had the best and worst Green Choice experiences in the last 2 weeks. Westin Hilton Head gave me my 1000 points when my folio posted next day after checkout. Westin Indianapolis took 2.5 weeks, 4 phone calls (2 to Plat hotline) and 1 email to give me a lousy 1000 points (+another 1000 for the logic and passion).
