They would be better off not offering a drink at all rather than looking this cheap! While I guess I shouldnt let something like a couple of drinks make me decide on hotel choices with so many SPG properties in BKK I won't be frequenting the St. Regis again if it sees fit to treat Plats with such a lame offer.

It's a very nice hotel and drinks are pretty cheap with the two for one offer they have in the bar, so I wouldn't let it sway me. I guess it depends how sweaty you get - for me the savings in laundry are worth more then any free drinks.

Thanks for clarifying and posting the pic. It is indeed a worse offer than the 90 minutes of freeflow before.

However you make a good point and to be honest I've only stayed here on a free night award when I've combined it with Sunday Brunch charged to the room to maximise points so the additional 90 minutes of Platinum freeflow following three hours of brunch freeflow cocktails and champagne is hardly a deal breaker.

Love the free laundry. Always stop for at least a couple of nights on the way home. Everyone hates doing laundry after a trip.

Where is this 2for1 offer at the bar? Never seen it

A drink and plated appetizer any time between 5 and 10 pm seems nice and flexible.

Does each drink coupon contain an individual date or could one, for instance, take both drinks on the same evening of a two night stay (of course with only one appetizer of the day?)?

Normally front desk writes your check out date so you can pool it.

Last time I arrived around 11pm for a one night stay they did not write an expiry date so I could use it next time I'm in.

Still have that saved for my next trip

The St. Regis Bangkok

Check In

Couldn’t have been easier.  Booked the hotel car from the airport and arriving at the domestic terminal it was only a very short walk to the waiting car.  I don’t think they update the wireless network details in the car because even before I got in my phone had connected to the car wifi as a known network from my last stay.

After a very quick light traffic trip arrived to the hotel and was greeted by the normal bell staff and the head butler and was escorted to the elevator by the Hotel Manager.  Slight faux pas on my part because the manager introduced himself as Cameron and even though I had dealt with him in the past I didn’t register who he was.

Check in itself was done in the room and only took a couple of minutes to sign some paperwork – the hotel car was also booked for my departure.  My luggage quickly followed, they had also taken the liberty of ordering my preferred type of tea which was also a nice touch.

The normal array of fruits and chocolates were also in the room along with a selection of various welcome notes.  It may have just been luck but they also managed to remember my abnormal pathological hatred of bananas, so my fruit bowl was banana free.

Room

Even the entry level rooms here are very nice.  However at the time of booking I was concerned about high occupancy rates with the King’s Cremation Ceremony so had booked the next level up – I was confident of an upgrade but for a five night stay I did want to guarantee a room with a view.

Two weeks before my stay I noticed that I had been upgraded to a St Regis Suite, obviously nothing is guaranteed until you are in the room, but things were looking up. Shortly before check in I received an email from the Director of Rooms saying that he had upgraded me to a Caroline Astor Suite which was extremely generous and much appreciated.

The C.A.S are located on the corners of the building and was extremely nice.  There was a very large entry area with a guest bathroom to one side and a connecting door to the room next door if needed.

Adjoining the lounge was the bedroom – again just stylish and comfortable.  A huge bed, a nice chair and a very handy Geneva S speaker.  The windows and stunning views really dominated the room.

Bedroom:

Though the walk through robe was the main bathroom. Again a huge size with a massive bath and stunning views.  Having a bath late at night watching a massive thunderstorm over Bangkok was bliss.

Plenty of Storage Space:

Massive Bathroom:

In terms of layout, comfort, furnishings and views I can’t fault the suite in anyway.

Service

In the past I’ve had some minor service issues – but this trip flawless.  Didn’t have much to do with the butler but all interactions were perfect.  I’m not really much for small talk so my standard reply to how was your day is normally “very well, thank you for asking” but I had no doubt if you wanted to have a chat with the butler they would be happy to share with you anything you needed to know.

Leaving for each day felt like I was aged eight back out boarding school being sent out on an errand.  I was always asked if I had the hotel contact details, told how much the approximately taxi fee would be, given a bottle of water, told to look out for pick-pickets and reminded to hold on to my manbag, European Carry All manly leather satchel. One morning I must have looked like a complete rube because I was warned not to buy anything from people approaching me on the street.

Service by the pool was also excellent.

Dining

It doesn’t make any difference in the scheme of things but when I get an above and beyond upgrade I do try to increase my discretionary spend in the hotel.  I don’t drink more then one drink a day (if that), so no huge bar tabs to run up.  My partner loves spa treatments but this was a solo trip and I despise them so that left food.

Breakfast was taken as a platinum amenity and was fine.  As an early riser usually only two or three other tables were taken so service was very attentive.  I only drink watermelon juice which they didn’t have but was made on request and automatically delivered on subsequent mornings.

Also had a meal at Viu – service standards were a lot more formal compared to breakfast, the food was good but nothing special.

A meal by the pool was fine, pretty much standard pool fare.  Room service was nice and reasonably priced.  Also had afternoon cakes from the lobby which were always nice.

However, the real stand out was Jojo which I highly recommend – really nice restaurant.

Location

Absolutely great.  The internal walkway to the BTS is super convenient.  Also ample taxis and easy walking distance to the park in one direction and shopping in the other.

Overall

Great hotel and a great stay.  Also worth mentioning the pool area which I found very good for a city hotel.  Spent a couple of hours there most afternoons and it was usually deserted giving it a very serene and relaxing atmosphere.

Great TR.

We've stayed many times, and always walked along the street up to Siam Paragon, not even using the raised footbridge. Last time I said, "Let's just take the BTS and see where it takes us!"

We know for next time.

Thanks so much for a great TR. Love these pics. The views from the bedroom and bathroom look "Rock Star" awesome. Pool looks lovely as well. Really hoping to find a few hours to take a swim in it when we are there in Feb. Also good to hear about the seamless car service as we will be using that as well. I love the brand and have been wanting to stay here for a while even if it is in a just a Grand Deluxe room. I am only gold so not expecting any upgrade, but i hear the Grand Deluxe rooms have decent views and are pretty nice too.

The Grand Deluxe Rooms are very comfortable. The XX05,06 & 07 rooms have primo views of the sports club. XX26 & XX27 also have nice sports club/city views. Be mindful that the rooms on the inner part of the curve lack some privacy e.g. XX28 can partially see into XX02.

After several years, I figured it was time to give this property a try. I was upgraded to a Caroline Astor suite after checking in around 9am. After choosing breakfast as my platinum amenity, I was told that it would start the next day; I would not be able to have a complimentary breakfast after checking in. While not hungry, it seemed rather petty for a service oriented hotel such as a St. Regis.

The Caroline Astor suite is located on the corner of the hotel, with stunning views of the racetrack and golf course. The room also overlooks the BTS, and you can hear the train rumbling by. I usually find that annoying, but it really didn’t bother me. The bathroom is pretty huge, and is stocked with Elemis toiletries instead of the usual Remede. The suite has a great layout and I felt right at home.

Breakfast was a solid offering, with made to order dishes. A good variety, all of which were high quality. Actually, I sampled the food throughout the hotel during my stay and was extremely pleased with everything, including the service. Plats are given a 20% discount at all restaurants except for the Japanese one, Zuma.

WiFi was 20Mbps. The fitness center is well equipped and is open 24/7, which I find valuable for when I wake up ridiculously early due to jetlag.

Overall, this St Regis gets solid marks from me, and will cause me to move my longer stays from the SGS due to the better rooms and food offerings. I had no issues with either the soft or hard products that previous posters have complained about in the distant past.

If you wanted breakfast on day one you clearly had an early check in. Should be grateful.

That's a real helpful comment. But in case I wasn't clear in my post, I didn't ask for breakfast on Day One. The receptionist noted that restriction without prompting, which as I said, seems to go against the customer oriented culture at the hotel and St Regis brand. Anyway, I'll leave it at that lest this devolves into a petty breakfast argument like in the SGS thread.

I wouldn't say it goes against the St. Regis brand culture but simple economics for the hotel. Marriott will only reimburse one Plat breakfast and BKK gets a lot of people coming in at different times. They'd end up giving up a lot of free breakfasts all the time to Platinums.
