Ok, I am the 1st to check in this morning...

The Astor suite has amazing and breath taking view over looked the Thai royal sport club...

Well, for those who think the hotel won't be ready to open its door to the guest.

I will say, the check in process was smooth, and the service is great. They surely ready to welcome all the guest in the very 1st day...

Everything is just fine and prefect!!!

Thank you for the post of the pics.. and the review.. (chinese version can be easy read with google translate - no problem :)

Astor suite and the view are perfect but you right for the price.. in bkk there are lots to consider...

for example:

Presidential Suite at Banyan Tree Bangkok can go as low as 17,600 Bath/Night ++
Now that is a deal for 204 sqm

for less but still in style:
- Grand Club Suite 67 sqm (5,600 Bath) ++
- One Bdr Banyan Suite 97 sqm (6,100 Bath) ++

Ps: Book by April 8, 2011 for arrivals through April 30, 2011.

And your right.. when it comes to Asian Hotels - services are mostly good , majority the main problems are language :) - ofcourse St Regis, FS, MOBKK, PEN, Sukhoth are ahead in the game as they are very proud of their legendary services..

We checked in around 12:30 and everything was well organized. A bit too many people welcoming us but that is the charm of staying here on the first day :-) I think 5-6 people were following us to the room.

The room is very comfortable, swimming pool is nice (but a bit cold) and the Spa looks fantastic!
Looking forward to the rest of our short stay here at St. Regis Bangkok....

You are right...me either...at least 5 ppl taken care of me in the same time...and almost all the management came to greeting you during the process of check, and it will actually made you a little uncomfortable. :D:D:D

I was the only focus in the whole hotel in the morning while I am checking in...:D kinda awkward

looks like thyetus was spot on regarding the opening date....^^

Much to the chagrin of some, I suppose. :)

I've got a trip to BKK in early May. Booked at the Sheraton - as we couldn't risk not having everything we needed. But if we get enough early reports of the hotel being up and running (with conference rooms / business center /etc) we might have time to change over to the St. Regis.

AS NOTED BY ANOTHER OP, PUTTING A BANDAID ON A BLEEDER DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE ON-GOING CONSTRUCTION WORK AND STILL TO BE COMPLETED CONSTRUCTION WORK WILL ONLY CAUSE GUESTS ARRIVING AFTER THE "SO-CALLED" 01 APRIL OPENING TO BE DISTURBED

Walked by March 31, supper time

So, there are still lots of outside tile workers and it's still a construction site, but you can (from the BTS stairs) see inside and the lobby area is furnished nicely and there are people washing windows and floors. Outside,, they're scrubbing the driveway. A news crew looked like they might be there to do a "Grand Opening" price, but then I lost track of them. The connector to the BTS looks like it is a long time away, though the station is right there, so no problem.
In short, it looks like they're planning to open on time, but I couldn't get inside to see if there are people "practicing" at the restaurant, front desk, etc. No way to evaluate. I will try to get by on the 2nd after they open. For me, I think I'll keep my Grand Hyatt Erawan reservation instead (April 3), as I have a 16-hour flight on the 4th, and want to be rested and well taken care of.

I am sure the St. Regis will be lovely, but the uncertainty is not relaxing.

Nice property but I'll take SGS
 

Halfway thru our first weekend stay at the new St Regis. Bottom line...I will stick with the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.

Hits:
Very modern design, almost like a W with luxury touches.
Lots and lots of staff - like an Indian hotel but much better trained.
Good personal attention - every staff member seems to know my name.
Resourceful and helpful concierge staff.
Fantastic Elemis spa.
Great view of the racetrack.

Misses:
No Platinum recognition apart from Welcome Amenity.
Pool area has no shade from afternoon sun.
Very small (27 table) restaurant; more kitchen than tables.
Limited, expensive (750 B) breakfast buffet.
Bridge to Skytrain not yet built.

We were staying on an opening weekend promo rate at 7300 B per night. Could have booked the SGS for 6000 B and gotten a much better stay (suite upgrade, free breakfast at a much better buffet). Not a bad stay, but all other things being equal we won't be back.

Our butler, Ken, has come from the St Regis in LA. He gave us a full demo of our room, offered to help us unpack, and asked if we needed anything pressed or cleaned upon our arrival. In other words, normal butler stuff.

The entire staff seems very well trained.

There is ongoing construction work (mainly the Skytrain bridge), but we have been completely undisturbed.

The public areas of the hotel are fully complete and functional.

No upgrades offered (did you ask?), or had you already booked a suite?

Isn't the skytrain station directly across from the hotel? Is the bridge really needed?

That's not really the point of being Plat, now, is it? I reserved a Deluxe room and as far as I can tell, that's what I got. Certainly not a suite by any definition.

Yes, it is across from the hotel. 3 storey climb (no escalator, either) which is not much fun when it's hot, humid, or raining...all of which are pretty common in Bangkok. Hotel seems to think it's needed because they are building it.
