Isn't this just a hollow gesture that actually results in more negative global impact given the advertising effort than it's actually worth?
It's definitely not the most ridiculous thing, but I do think that it is fairly ridiculous. It's not about action, though -- it's about awareness.

I think that it's kind of ridiculous that the hotels would turn off the signs that are there for guests to find the hotel, and that guests would be required to dine by candlelight if they dine at the hotel restaurant.

At least there was no suggestion (that I'm aware of) for people to turn off their headlights if they're driving to the hotel during Earth Hour.

I am digressing, but US should have spent $100 billion researching renewable energy in 1973, and we don't all these things now.

And 30 years from now someone will say the US government should have spent $1 Trillion researching xxxxxxxxx in 2011, and we wouldn't be having the problems we are now.

I logged into see if mine posted and they did, as well as 15,000 more for amex SPG bonus. I signed up for the SPG card last Oct and they posted all my bonuses (15k and 10k)by Dec. So somehow I got 15,000 extra free points. ^^^^
