The new spg.com (2007) and the new accorhotels.com (2009)

I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but the homepage for the new accorhotels.com looks remarkably similar to to spg.com.

Or maybe I'm just too much of a hotel nerd.

I'd call you a hotel nerd, but I think you already did that...

Not too similar IMHO.

Don't #2 and #3 cover about 70% of travel-related sites? I've seen lots of airline, hotel, and general travel sites that have the same general layout.

1) blue to purple?

2) not really, as SPG keeps the right full picture/promos, accor has clutter of an additional box on the right.

3) maybe it's my browser, but spg's sign in box is just below the left box on the left side. accor has yet more clutter with a sign in box upper right.

Overall spg's site is cleaner, with more items under tabs, or pull down menus, no need to scroll down on most screens, but on Accor's you have t oscroll down to see all that junk. The white background is pretty standard, while spg's purple puts your focus on the customizable boxes or photography.

OMG, I just said good things about spg.com... what's wrong with me?

Yeah all of the cheap looking junk under the main pic looks very, well cheap, but the first thing I thought when i get the accor email announcing their new site was that it looked like spg.com

Maybe it's just me.

Becareful saying good things about spg.com, you have your reputation to consider

Accor Hotels, huh? Well I know Accor has the luxury Sofitel. And SPG does reach out to the budget-minded with Four Points. But something about Accor just makes me feel cheap. Oh, yea. Motel6

accorhotels has poor management for their loyalty system. Prior to A|Club, their sofitel thing will not post stays/points half of the point.

Also they are counting points in EUROs...
