switching to SQ

I think the answer to this is probably no, but thought I would check

We just requalified UA*G, and still have 13000 miles to fly on SQ today.

We have really liked the SQ flights and will fly them again to the US

I was wondering how this would pan out

1. sign up for Krisflyer
2. credit the 13000 miles to them,as a *G would i get any elite bonus? to start us off?

I am not so much looking for status with them , as building up some SQ miles to use for upgrades as we fly them more.

Yes, the answer is no.

Elite bonus on SQ is a benefit for SQ elite when crediting miles to SQ program. Your UA status is irrelevant.@:-)

Thought so

Since we intend to fly them again soon, is it worth crediting and building on SQ from now- we have all we need from UA for the moment.

Even though SQ is a good airline, their frequent flyer program is awful. Crediting to a second *A program may be a good idea, but not SQ.

The SQ program is a good place to stash miles if you plan on frequently using either SQ or MI (Silkair) for flights within Southeast Asia. Those redemptions are easily had, and because the regular fares are expensive, the redemptions for free travel are a good deal.

For Transpacific award and upgrade travel, forget it: very high redemption requirements, lots of restrictions on the type of plane you can use, and very restricted availability unless you can wait until the last minute, when they'll open unsold seats.

Question Why no MI in *A?

Speaking of Silk Air (MI) does anyone have any idea why this has not been promoted to a *A regional member. I would think they would be a perfect candidate for this type of membership.
