Quick way of finding flight routes?
For various reasons, I haven't flown with *A for about a year but, having used United a lot in the past, I have quite a few miles accumulated. UA have just announced that miles will now expire after 18months, so I'm looking to either fly with any *A carrier in the near future or book a trip that will redeem miles.
I want to visit Madrid (from London) for a long weekend anyway, but I can't see that any *A carriers operate this route now, unless I go via Munich, Zurich etc.
I may have to pick another destination instead, but does anyone know an easy way of finding out what routes are available on *A, from London? Or do all carriers only fly between London and their hub city/country?
Not surprisingly, United's website is absolutely no help at all for travel originating outside of the US.

Welcome to Flyer Talk strudders67
In the Star Alliance forum there is a sticky with useful reference links, including one to BlondeBomber's site for a routing spreadsheet - that can be filtered to select only *A, to or from a certain airport, etc.
Alternatively, the *A website www.staralliance.com has a useful search function for *A flights between two cities.

Welcome to Flyertalk.
You can look for Star Alliance schedules on their website...
http://www.staralliance.com/en/travellers/index.html
You can look for schedules on "most" airlines on many travel agency sites (e.g. Travelocity.co.uk Expedia.co.uk Opodo.co.uk ), although in the UK carriers such as EasyJet or Ryanair are typically listed only on their own sites.

Welcome to FT and the *A board strudders67! You are aware of the fact that there are other things you can do to stop your miles from expiring after 18 months? Just crediting miles from car rental companies, credit cards or hotels to your UA account will start another 18 months cycle.

Thanks everyone for your help. I had already tried ebookers and cheapflights but couldn't believe the results I was getting - the Star Alliance website has confirmed that there are no direct flights to Madrid any more and nor are there any to Berlin, which is my second choice.
Unfortunately, I rarely stay in hotels that are linked to my FF cards, I don't have affiliated credit cards and I never hire cars, so I either fly somewhere or I buy some miles (that I don't need) to prevent expiry.
I will go to Madrid with BA or Iberia and then book something early next year when LH start direct flights to Berlin from London City.
At least I now know how to find flights though. Thanks again.

Strudders 67, Lufthansa (member of *A) is flying to LCY from Berlin Tegel (TXL), starting Jan 14, 2008.
Not sure if this helps.
(BTW, Lisbon could be another nice option for a city break with several nonstop flights out of LHR on TAP)
