I reckon it must be time for some out of box thinking, and for more and different brains to enter this hunt as well!
But that would take the fun out of it! And raise prices!!!!!

Great Escapade booked

I have just finished booking my Great Escapade trip.

My trip, all in biz class, starts and ends in Hong Kong.

I used the www.greatescapade.com tool to help work out routings and so on, and the wealth of info available on this board to avoid Singapore Airlines surcharges on biz class.....

I actually made the reservation on the phone with SQ in London, and then called SQ HK ticketing dept to pay for it. I got the HK price, which is just over 50% of the ex UK price.

So, thanks for all the tips, people!!!

Steve.

While on the phone with my TA regarding my next trip, I asked him about the Great Escapade. Apparently it is also available ex ATH for 3.920, which is considerably cheaper than the 5.085 you would pay ex FRA or 5.900 (GBP 3.996) ex LHR. How would you return to ATH if you start your CRWESC going east to SIN on SQ?

ex FCO it's about the same price as ATH, but you can't reach FCO from the west either. I found only one european departure point where a low EUR-price could be bookable, though those prices look like mistakes compared to prices ex-FRA and ex-LON.

After a little research I guess I found it as well...

According to the rules, The Great Escapade allows the following stopovers:

OJ travel is permitted only
(a) Within USA/Canada/Caribbean
(b) Within Europe
(c) Within Africa
(d) Within South East Asia/North Asia (*)
(e) Within Australia/New Zealand
(*) North Asia is defined as Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan & Korea
Of course you can start in HNL and end in LAX or start in FRA and end in HAJ but is my understanding correct that the OJ rules do not allow a start in HKG and end in NRT?

Yes, they were considered in the rules the last time I checked with SQ (about a year ago...), so I don't think they have changed this important parameter...

So does this mean that the mileage to go from your open-jaw to your next departure position is added. eg syd-zqn//akl-lax would be calculated as syd-zqn-akl-lax in mileage terms?
Hoping to get one of these booked next monday just in time before the cut off, ex-HKG booked through emailing the HKG NZ centre.
They also stated that i was not able to go over the 29000miles, but people have mentioned you can buy add ons...might have to press this point to them perhaps....

Just bought my Great Escapade and purchased additional 4500 miles for a great price of 495 USD.. Because of the backtracking option I have a great itinerary of LAX-NRT-LHR-SFO-AKL-MEL-AKL-LAX.. This unusual itinerary was approved and I have eticket in hand...

Interesting route. I thought that only one Pacific and one Atlantic crossing were allowed but it looks like you were successful in getting 3 trans-Pacific legs.

Booked in the nick of time

So finally got my itinery sorted and now all paid up and ticketed this morning, all communication was through NZ's centre in Hong Kong using email. They were pretty good w.r.t. the rules and routings so was pretty easy to book.
finally settled for HKG-AKL-SYD-AKL-CHC-AKL-BNE-AKL-WLG-AKL-LAX-LHR-HKG. Went over the 29k miles so paid for another 1500 and the routing suits the little time i have except for my time in the UK. All flights are on NZ metal and therefore maximise my airpoints accrual and will get me to *Gold Elite.
transit through akl gives me the 777 and 747 flights to Oz rather than the A320's from chc and wlg, also get a few more airpoints for the domestic connections.
pleased as punch, just have to wait until april to start it!
dj

PS - thanks to all that have helped and posted info on this great product sadly drawing to a close today...
