LOL! Aweful like in terrific?

If you mean awful: So is the CX lounge. But I've read that you can get WLAN there, so I'll give it a shot next time.

SQ lounge in TBIT will close after Labor Day. A new *A lounge will open by mid 2007. In the interim, First class passengers could use a shared lounge in TBIT, while business class passengers could only access an off-site lounge by bus. :(

For those of us who are not Americans, which date is Labor Day?

In Canada/US the Labour/Labor Day holiday is the first Monday in September That makes it Sep 4 this year. It's also considered the unofficial end of Summer for many people.

I will want to have a look at the LAX SKL while waiting for SQ11 in August. I know it's nothing to shout about, but I do expect it to be a notch better than the Asiana Lounge which I visited last year. Which other lounges could I use as a PPS member flying on SQ Y?

Actually, SQ lounge in TBIT only admit passengers in First or PPS members flying C. :( Trust me, you are not missing anything. They are equally aweful. I can't wait for the new *A lounge. BTW, I think the closure applies to all TBIT lounges as the entire floor will be demolished to make way for the new lounge.

:( It seems this was not adequately stated on the SQ website. Will I be able to visit the Varig Lounge? Otherwise I will have to make do with the OZ Lounge yet again. Incidentally, I'm waitlisted for C Class on SQ11, but I think chances are slim.

I don't think Varig will be able to maintain any international lounges given the fact that they have more or less become a Brazilian domestic carrier ! :D

You mean, a carrier with only one domestic route!

I'm just feeling like adding further confusion to this thread:

AF don't depart from TBIT, but from T2. I think they use the NZ lounge there.
It's the JAL lounge then which is awful?

I recently flew LH out of LAX. I confirm that the LAX Senator lounge is shared with JAL. It is small and pokey (and it appears most of the other lounges are too at TBIT). When I arrived, the attendant was most concerned that I wouldn't even find a seat. I asked whether the C-lounge had more room and she "doubted it". She found me a space and once the JAL flight had been called it became more breathable.
There is free WLAN, but I think it was leaking from another lounge (possibly CX). There is free WLAN from JAL, but you have to go through a pile of "accepting terms and conditions" in Japanese to get it - no English page available. A bit pathetic for a LH lounge.
Snacks and drinks were minimal and the coffee machine was broken.
Fortunately the lounge is staffed by Japanese, who all seemed embarassed by what they were offering and did their best to make us feel comfortable.

Correct. AF departs from T2 and uses NZ lounge. Was there when AF scheduled to depart in 2 hours. NZ lounges magazines and newspapers magically became mostly in French, and no NZ newspapers around to read.
